SCAD Announces 4 New Schools

Savannah College of Art and Design launches the School of Creative Technology, Animation and Motion, Film and Acting, and Visual Communication: courses in new technologies and STEM disciplines prepare students to lead companies, brands, and studios.

Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has announced the creation of four new schools: the School of Creative Technology, School of Animation and Motion, School of Film and Acting, and School of Visual Communication. In addition to the recently announced De Sole School of Business Innovation, SCAD stated its renewed commitment to preparing students to lead companies, brands, and studios by embracing new technologies and STEM disciplines.

“SCAD continually evolves because change defines global business,” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace. “Our brilliance never rests. SCAD offers degree programs today that didn’t even exist before SCAD invented them! Radically trailblazing courses of study like immersive reality and themed entertainment belong in a class all their own, which is why I’m proud to announce the creation of the SCAD School of Creative Technology, a Shangri-La for STEM students worldwide, along with the newly formed School of Animation and Motion, School of Film and Acting, and School of Visual Communication. The future lives at SCAD, right here, right now.”

SCAD School of Creative Technology:

  • Degree programs include immersive reality, interactive, design and game development, and themed entertainment design.
  • Students can harness technology, experience, and entertainment by combining technical mastery with an artistic sensibility.
  • From mobile games to theme parks, hospitality to healthcare, and branded ad campaigns to online and in-person shopping, students are prepared to use technology as future professionals.

The SCAD School of Animation and Motion:

  • The university’s animation, motion media design, and visual effects programs merge to create a digital creative production, talent, and nextgen tech hub.

The SCAD School of Film and Acting:

  • Students benefit from a comprehensive university film studio, including the SCAD Casting Office, SCAD’s new movie backlot in Savannah, and mixed-reality (XR) stages in Savannah and Atlanta.
  • Degree programs include film and television, performing arts, production design, and sound design.
  • Students command roles on stage and behind the scenes with a comprehensive production schedule, preparing them for careers in films, sitcoms, live performances, dramatic series, music videos, and commercials.

SCAD School of Visual Communication:

  • Encompassing the university’s illustration, photography, and sequential art programs, the new structure provides a strategic focus on foundational studio disciplines that use visual tools and techniques for communication, storytelling, and artistic expression. Students will master skills to translate a range of emotions into tangible images and designs that impact the world.
