Headline News Millar's War Heroes Go To Sony

Comic WAR HEROES by Mark Millar has been purchased by Sony for Michael DeLuca to produce, per VARIETY.

Sony's Columbia Pictures is looking for a writer to adapt the books, which were published starting in June from Image Comics. Sony won the six-part property over several other studios.

Millar will exec produce with Zach Schiff Abrams. The story is about an experimental military program that gives soldiers superpowers. A hero amongst the ranks rises up to stop a rogue group of soldiers who use their powers for criminal misdeeds.

Stephen Chow will star as Kato and make his American directorial debut in THE GREEN HORNET, opposite Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet.

Chow's hire gives a hint to the type of movie THE GREEN HORNET will be, as his style (as described in THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) in KUNG FU HUSTLE and SHAOLIN SOCCER is kung fu-meets-Bugs Bunny.

Masked crime fighter Green Hornet, to be played by a slimmed-down Rogan, was a 1930s radio star who later appeared on film, TV and comic books. The also-masked Kato is Green Hornet's sidekick and driver.

Blizzard Ent.'s WORLD OF WARCRAFT: WRATH OF THE LICH KING, the second expansion for its award-winning subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), will arrive in stores on November 13 in North America, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Russia, and November 14 in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The expansion will be available in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on November 18. Details regarding the launch of WRATH OF THE LICH KING in mainland China will be announced at a later date.

RACCOON AND CRAWFISH, the eight- minute 3D animated short produced by the Oneida Indian Nation's Four Directions Productions, has captured its 14th film festival win from around the world.

This time the Oneida legend brought to life through animation has won Best Animation at the Guild of Italian American Actors Festival of Short Films and Videos, scheduled for October 4-5 in New York City.

Headline News Will Smith Tries Out Pharaoh Job, Battles Assyrian Invaders

Will Smith may be headed for ancient Egypt in his next role. Randall Wallace (BRAVEHEART) has been hired to write THE LAST PHARAOH for Columbia, a drama created as a star vehicle for Smith to play Taharqa, the pharaoh who battled Assyrian invaders in 677 B.C., per VARIETY.

Smith, James Lasister and Ken Stovitz will produce for Overbrook Ent. Smith brought Wallace the story, having long wanted to play the Egyptian leader. The film will focus on Taharqa's battles with the Assyrian leader Esarhaddon.

Columbia is seriously pursuing a new installment of its GHOSTBUSTERS franchise, per VARIETY.

They have hired THE OFFICE co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitzky to pen a script for a new film that would bring back the original cast -- minus the retired Rick Moranis -- of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

Columbia refused comment on development of a new film.

Freestyle Releasing and Fathom Studios have picked a December 12 release date for CG animated film, DELGO.

DELGO won Best Animated Feature of 2008 at Anima Mundi in Brazil this year.

DELGO is a fantasy action-adventure of a world's struggle for unity. The voice cast includes Freddie Prinze, Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer, Chris Kattan, Malcolm McDowell, Lou Gossett, Jr., Kelly Ripa, Michael Clarke Duncan, Eric Idle, Sally Kellerman and Burt Reynolds.

Universal Pictures International Ent. will release THE INCREDIBLE HULK on DVD and Blu-ray on October 13, marking the studio's first international day-and-date wide debut of a Blu-ray new release feature film.

The film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S. on October 21.

From Marvel Studios, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, starring Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler has earned $250 million in worldwide box office. Bonus features on the Blu-ray will include the U-Control application and interactive features via BD-Live.

IMAX industry veteran Patricia Brandino has joined 3D Entertainment Distribution in the newly created position of VP, Film Sales. Effective September 7, Brandino will be responsible for theatrical sales of the company's current and future film catalogue in North America, including Jean-Michel Cousteau's DOLPHINS AND WHALES 3D released domestically at IMAX 3-D theatres earlier this year. She will report directly to Francois Mantello, the chairman of 3D Entertainment and its distribution unit.

Headline News Columbia Buys A Maximum Ride

Columbia Pictures has purchased the screen rights to MAXIMUM RIDE, and has hired Don Payne to write the script, per VARIETY.

RIDE is a young adult novel series from James Patterson, featuring six children who have been genetically altered to be 98 percent human, 2 percent bird. The kids, bred to fly, escape their lab-rat existence and are pursued by their scientist creators, who send a pack of part-human, part-wolf creatures called Erasers to track them down.

The fifth installment of the book series will be published in 2009.
