Toon Boom Launches Symphony Worldwide, Studio for PC

Toon Boom Animation has launched the customer release of Toon Boom Studio v2.5 for PC. In addition, Toon Boom has announced the calendar of launch events for the release of Toon Boom Symphony.

Similar to the Mac 2.5 version, Toon Boom Studio for PC now includes a number of features, including:* Support for scanning* Ability to draw in the 3D Sceneplanning space* Improved sound scrubbing* Visualization and manipulation of drawings and keyframes in the Timeline.

Incredibles Cine-Manga Coming!

TOKYOPOP, in conjunction with Disney Publishing Worldwide and Pixar Animation Studios, will be releasing a Cine-Manga book based on THE INCREDIBLES in March 2005. Delivered in TOKYOPOP's Cine-Manga format, the book version will present the films plotline with vivid screen captures and manga-style word balloons.

Animazoo Shows Mocap Moves at Simulation Conference

Animazoo is demoing the GypsyGyro-18 motion capture system at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando Dec. 6-9, 2004 at the InterSenses booth, number 3234.

Animazoo, with more than 10 years experience in developing motion capture systems, has chosen InterSenses InertiaCube3 sensor technology for the GypsyGyro-18. Canadian broadcaster TELETOON won the Boomerang Grand Prix "Version Internet d'un média télé" (Television Broadcaster Category) for its Website, www.teletoon.com, on Dec. 1, 2004, in Montreal. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the prestigious Boomerang is the only award that recognizes Internet productions and multimedia created by or intended for the Quebec market.

Disney Supports Blu-ray Disc Format

The high-def DVD war just got more interesting, as The Walt Disney Co. announced its non-exclusive support of the Blue-ray Disc format embraced by Sony and manufactured by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. This comes on the heels of last weeks announcement that Toshiba Corp. is getting support from Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, Warner Bros. and New Line for its rival next-generation DVD format, HD DVD.

McDonalds has its Hamburglar character, Burger King seems to think it has a rash of its own thieves or spongenappers and is offering a reward of Burger Bucks good for a one-year's supply of original Whopper sandwiches for information leading to the safe return of missing SpongeBob SquarePants inflatables. The gigantic blow-up figures began popping up on tops of Burger King restaurants on Nov. 11, 2004 and have been recently disappearing from their lofty perches.

Cars Delayed Till 2006

The Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios have announced that they will delay the theatrical release of CARS to June 2006 from November 2005, reports REUTERS. Both companies said the move was to exploit the higher box office potential of a summer release. This move also gives Pixar more time to find a new distribution partner for its CARS-follow-up, which will be their first feature produced outside of their current Disney distribution deal, which is set of expire after the release of John Lasseters automobile epic.

Eurimages Gives Bukko Funds to Toons

Pan-European film fund Eurimages has given 3.5 million ($4.7 million) to nine international co-productions in its December session, reports VARIETY. Three of the projects were animated, including Michel Ocelot's AZUR ET ASMAR, Philippe Leclerc's LA REINE SOLEIL and Victor Maldonado and Adrian Garcias NOCTURNA. Each animated feature received up to $780,000 each.

Platinum & Dimension To Bring The Darkness to the Big Screen

Platinum Studios and Top Cow Prods. Inc. announced a deal in which Dimension Films has acquired the exclusive rights to develop Top Cows THE DARKNESS as a live-action feature film. THE DARKNESS is the first film deal between Platinum and Top Cow, following Platinums acquisition of the film and television rights to Top Cows comic book library this past July.

Softimage Co. and the National Animation and Design Centre (NAD Centre) launched NAD Centre Internet Academy (NADIA), the first realtime, interactive learning program for SOFTIMAGE|XSI digital content creation software. NADIA allows 3D artists to access professional instruction for SOFTIMAGE|XSI software directly from a desktop PC connected to the Internet. Participants can choose from a series of 18 modular courses supplemented by an extensive library of material and scenes.
