Havas Changes Name To Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing

Havas Interactive, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal Publishing, has changed its name to Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing (VU Interactive Publishing). The company is comprised of two operating divisions, Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing North America (VU Interactive Publishing NA) and Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing International, each of which is charged with directing the sales, distribution and operating activities in its respective region.

Disney has announced the signing of a licensing deal with Kellogg Company, the worlds leading producer of cereal and convenience foods. Available nationwide beginning in May 2001, the adventure of Disney's ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE will come to life through Kellogg's licensed cereal, free package inserts, free mail-in offers and interactive Website. Atlantean Diving Water Toys will be available in 25 million packages of Kellogg's range of products. Caligari Releases trueSpace 5.1 with Shockwave3D Output

3D authoring technology vendor Caligari Corporation has released trueSpace 5.1, the newest version of its 3D modeling program that now features new support for Macromedia Shockwave3D and other web output capabilities. The company lowered the price for the stand-alone version of trueSpace, as well as launched a new paid subscription-based "proTeam" program of online tools, training programs, libraries and support services.

Cartoon Network Latin America Wins Two FIAP Animation Awards

Cartoon Network Latin America won a silver and bronze award in the animation category at the 2001 Festival Iberoamericano de Agencias de Publicidad (FIAP). Selected from more than 5,000 entries from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, this year's FIAP winners were announced on May 11, 2001 at the awards ceremony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. AQUAMAN, a promotional spot for Votatoon, received the silver award, and FRED, a spot promoting the Cartoon Network Websites CartoonNetworkLA.com, CartoonNetwork.com.br and CartoonNetwork.com.mx, earned the bronze.

The International Animation Festival of Brazil, Anima Mundi, presentsits second Web animation competition, Anima Mundi Web. Ring of Fire Promos FOX Sports Net Show

The Ring of Fire creative team has designed and produced a promo package for FOX Sports Net's "Regional Sports Report" that began airing on March 22, 2001. The package was customized for broadcast in 16 different regions. Targeted promos were created for the four main markets -- Southern California, Seattle, the South and Southwest -- which included footage of various athletes from those important regions. Ring of Fire also created a generic version of the promo, which contained generic footage and graphical elements that could easily be changed to identify specific regional teams.

Quiet Man Creates 3D Spot For Conseco Insurance

New York visual effects company Quiet Man recently created "Organ Grinder," a 30-second spot featuring a talking monkey. The spot was commissioned by New Yorks Fallon McElliot agency for Conseco Insurance. It first aired April 12, 2001. Quiet Man 3D designer David Shirk got involved in pre-production with a review of camcorder footage of a monkey. Based on footage of the monkeys head and various side views with an emphasis on his jaw and lower face, Shirk constructed a computer model with Realviz Image Modeller and Softimage 3D, later adding fur in Softimage 3D.

Beauty And The Beast To Open On IMAX January 1, 2002

The Walt Disney Company is moving up its large-format release of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST to January 1, 2002, following on the success of last year's January 1 release of FANTASIA/2000: The Imax Experience. Produced by Don Hahn and directed by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has been digitally remastered and reformatted specifically for release to 15/70 and 8/70 theaters. The new version includes a never-before-seen musical sequence featuring Human Again, a song that had been written and storyboarded for the original release, but never animated.

Sony Deals Bring Flash And Realplayer To The Playstation 2

In separate deals announced May 16, 2001, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. entered into agreements with RealNetworks and Macromedia to embed both RealPlayer and Flash client technologies into the PlayStation2 game console and software development kit (SDK). RealPlayer integration will enable the 10 million plus PlayStation 2 users to access streaming Internet audio and video content such as news, sports and other entertainment. The SDK will allow game developers, using the latest RealPlayer technology, to incorporate streaming media directly into their PlayStation 2 games.

Digimation Releases Bones Pro 3

Digimation Inc. announced on May 18, 2001 the immediate availability of Bones Pro 3, the latest version of the popular skeletal deformation tool for character and creature animation inside of 3ds max. The new release lets users build a set of underlying bones to deform a mesh, assign the Bones Pro 3 modifier to the mesh and pick the bones that will drive the animation. The new toolkit includes MetaBones and ParaBones, advanced tools that allow users further control of character deformations through the use of simple primitive objects that act as constraints within the skeleton.
