Umedia Opens VFX and Finishing Studio in Vancouver

Umedia expands global reach with launch of new 10,000-square-foot VFX and finishing house in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER -- Umedia has opened its first Canadian visual effects and finishing studio in Vancouver, British Columbia. Umedia Vancouver is the fifth office for Umedia, whose activities span film and television development, production and financing in London, Los Angeles, Brussels and Paris. The Vancouver studio joins VFX facilities in Brussels and Paris, enhancing the group’s international VFX presence and bringing Umedia closer to North American clients.

“I am delighted to welcome Umedia Vancouver to the family,” said Umedia founder Adrian Politowski. “The world-renowned quality of Vancouver’s VFX and finishing artists, combined with an attractive tax incentive program, made the city an obvious choice. Our multinational network and commitment to creating an enjoyable work environment will give us a unique edge in the local post-production scene.”

Umedia Vancouver’s 10,000-square-foot facility is equipped to house more than 70 artists and includes a 4K screening theatre with a 26.5-foot screen, Dolby 3D and Dolby Surround 7.1. The space also features a full digital intermediate (DI) suite, AVID edit suites and production offices.

The facility is managed by Peter Muyzers, a multi-award-winning Oscar nominee with decades of industry experience. Before joining Umedia Vancouver as CEO, Muyzers was COO of Imagine Engine, where he helped launched the company’s film division. His film credits include Elysium, American Sniper, District 9, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, the Harry Potter series and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

“From on-set supervision to finishing and delivery, Umedia Vancouver offers an integrated approach for filmmakers,” commented Muyzers. “We work closely with clients to bring their creative visions to life, on time. Between the talented team we have assembled and Umedia’s significant investment, we look forward to becoming a leader in Vancouver’s thriving post-production and VFX industry.”

The Umedia VFX team’s recent credits include What Happened To Monday?, Grace of Monaco, The Exception and Netflix’s Marseille. Production is set to commence on I Kill Giants, starring Zoe Saldana and produced in collaboration with Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures.
