In this brief, candid interview, Travis Knight, director of the upcoming film Kubo and the Two Strings, discusses his passion for stop-motion, what it’s like working on a stop-motion set, and the art of being a stop-motion animator.
Knight is the CEO of LAIKA, the company behind the stop-motion animated films Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls. All three of LAIKA’s previous films have been nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and Kubo and the Strings, which stars Oscar winners Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey, marks Knight’s directorial debut.
