Marvel’s Killraven Flies to Sony

Sony Pictures is in talks with Marvel Ent. to adapt Marvel's lesser-known comicbook KILLRAVEN into a sci-fi tentpole feature, reports VARIETY. Sony is already in talks with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan (THE KENTUCKY CYCLE) to adapt the 1970s series. If the film goes forward, Marvel's head Avi Arad would produce with Angryfilms' Don Murphy. Marvels Kevin Feige would exec produce.

Butterfly Effect 2 Flutters To Life

FilmEngine has okayed a pitch for a sequel to THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, reports VARIETY. Because the new film has an entire new cast of characters, original star, Ashton Kutcher, isn't expected to return. John Leonetti (MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION) will direct and Michael Weiss will write the script.

Filmengine's A.J. Dix and Anthony Rhulen will produce along with Benderspink's Chris B Bender and J.C. Spink. William Shively is exec producing.

Weekly Animation Screening Launched in Moscow

Moscow's Central House of Business, which houses the 35MM cinema, will start its Animation Project on April 3, 2005, with screenings of five cartoons by the city's Animos cartoon studio, reports HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Each weekend the theater will screen homegrown toons.

The first program includes Maria Muat's 13-minute PRO MISHONKA (ABOUT A MOUSE), which was voted Russia's best children's cartoon at the 10th Open Russian Animation Festival in Suzdal.

Animation Project was created due to the success of 10 hours of new animation screened at the Suzdal festival.

Wizard World Los Angeles Sets New Attendance Record

Wizard Entertainment Group announced today that it drew 24,500 fans to its annual Wizard World Los Angeles event, posting more than a 20% increase from its inaugural 2004 show. At this years show, event organizers revealed plans to relocate the three-day pop-culture extravaganza to the Los Angeles Convention Center, March 17-19, 2006.

Lucas to Repurpose Star Wars Trilogies in 3D

George Lucas announced Thursday at ShoWest that he intends to repurpose all of the STAR WARS movies in 3D for digital cinema re-release, with the original movie, A NEW HOPE, to be readied in time for its 30th anniversary in 2007, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The plan is to then reissue one every year through 2012.

Barry Bonds, BALCO Scandal Lampooned by Web Animation

For an animated Internet lampoon of the BALCO steroid scandal involving major league baseball players Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield has been lampooned by an Internet animation.

The two-minute cartoon, which can be viewed for free at www.TheHomerunGuys.com, was written and directed by Will Horan, who says he was inspired by the web animations that parodied the 2004 presidential election (by JibJab).

"I just wanted to do something funny and make people laugh" said Horan, who saw a tremendous jump in traffic with very little advertising.

Walt Disney Pictures has lined-up a star-studded voice cast for the English-dubbed release of Hayao Miyazakis highly anticipated HOWLS MOVING CASTLE. Christian Bale (BATMAN BEGINS) will star as Howl. Main character Sophie Hatter will be voiced by Gene Simmons (THROUGH THE MOEBIUS STRIP) as an old woman and Emily Mortimer (DEAR FRANKIE) as a little girl.
