Casting News For Wes Craven's New Film

Henry Lee Hopper (Dennis Hopper's son), Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps and Emily Meade have been cast in Wes Craven's horror thriller 25/8 for Rogue Pictures, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The relatively-unknown actors will be teens haunted by a serial killer who was supposed to have died 15 years earlier. The film's story takes place over the course of 24 hours as the small-town high school students try to uncover whom or what is stalking them.

Superman Not Steely Enough To Avoid Legal Problems

Warner Bros. lost a potentially costly SUPERMAN battle against attorney Marc Toberoff for co-creator Jerome Siegel's heirs, VARIETY reports.

The federal ruling gives the heirs a stake in the rights, which were sold more than 70 years ago, and could put a wrinkle in Warners' plans to make more movies. Compounding the problem, co-creator Joe Shuster's heirs are eligible to also sue in five years.

EA/Take-Two Battle Continues

Electronic Arts is not giving up their battle for GRAND THEFT AUTO publisher Take-Two, per VARIETY.

They're keeping the heat on Take-Two's shareholders despite the board's recommendation that a hostile $2 billion acquisition offer be rejected.

EA pushed back the expiration date to April 18, to counter Take-Two's decision to move their annual meeting back to April 17, a week after the bid was set to run out.

The offer now can be discussed at the meeting and gives shareholders one last opportunity to sell.

Escape Award Winners Announced

Anyone near the Southbank on the evening of March 27 would have noticed something special going on at Tate Modern as Lord Puttnam hosted the Escape Awards 2008 in partnership with Autodesk and AMD.

Wii Users: Rock Band Coming Soon

ROCK BAND will be released on Wii this summer in the U.S. and Canada.

The game was developed by Harmonix and MTV Games, along with distribution partner Electronic Arts.

ROCK BAND for Wii will be released June 22 as a Special Edition bundle including the software, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar for the US and Canada for $169.99.

Classic Twilight Zone Episode Coming To Big Screen

Writer Michael Brandt will write COUNTDOWN for Summit Entertainment, based on a classic episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER reports.

Brandt will also make his directorial debut on the film, which is about a group of astronauts who land on a planet, find a crashed spaceship and corpses that resemblethemselves. They must try to figure out if they're really dead and where they might be.

Erik Feig, Summit's production head told the REPORTER they chose Brandt because he fits into their goal of supporting new talent.

Fanboys To Be Released In Two Versions On DVD

The Weinstein Company plans to jointly release two versions of its highly anticipated film, FANBOYS, on DVD, with the company exploring options for its theatrical release.

In recent weeks, STAR WARS fans nationwide have built a multi-tiered grassroots effort to voice their strong support for one of the earlier versions of the film, including a campaign that generated more than 300,000 emails in support for the film.

Based on the tremendous feedback and interest from the fans, Weinstein will ensure both versions will be equally available.

Dexter's Benz In Saw V

Julie Benz has been added to the cast of SAW V from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Screenplay is by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, and David Hackl will direct. Hackl was the production designer on the second through fourth SAW films.Tobin Bell will reprise his role as the manipulative Jigsaw for a fifth time. Benz will be a prim and proper Brit who is the latest pawn in Jigsaw's games.

Producers are Mark Burg and Oren Koules. The Toronto-based production started March 17 for an October 24 release date.

Bostick Named Co-CEO Of Walden Media

Michael Bostick has been named Co-CEO of Walden Media; Anschutz Film Group CEO David Weil announced.

Bostick, who until now has served as head of Tom Shadyac's Shady Acres Entertainment, will share CEO responsibilities with Walden Media's Cary Granat.

Bostick, who joins on April 16, will be responsible for the acquisition and development of all future Walden Media and Bristol Bay films, other than the company's current franchise, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, and a few other specific projects that Granat will oversee.

Author Tom Wheeler has sold his upcoming novel CUTLASS ISLAND to Regency, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The book by the same name deals with two shipwrecked brothers who discover a world of mythological and mysterious creatures.

In what might be the longest movie title of the year, the book I AM A GENIUS OF UNSPEAKABLE EVIL AND I WANT TO BE YOUR CLASS PRESIDENT will be adapted by Warner Bros., according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Writer Josh Lieb (THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART) is writing the book and film script, McG via his Wonderland Sound and Vision will produce.

Penguin Books is publishing the book, whose story centers around an unpopular, chubby 13-year-old boy. Everyone assumes he's the dumbest kid in school, but he's really an evil genius.

Sin City's King Onboard For A Bloody Valentine

Jaime King (SIN CITY) will star in Lionsgate's MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Patrick Lussier will direct the remake of the 1981 slasher flick about a murderer who kills people for celebrating Valentine's Day.

Zane Smith wrote the screenplay, in which King will be Sarah Palmer, who marries her childhood sweetheart's nemesis, only to fall back in love with her original man.

Executive producers are Jack Murray, John Dunning and Andre Link, as well as Mike Paseornek and John Sacchi for Lionsgate.

The Force is with Spike TV this April as the complete STAR WARS saga comes to basic cable.
