Erin Esurance Debuts in 3D for Star Trek-Themed Spot

W!LDBRAIN Animation Studios has teamed with their client Esurance, the direct-to-consumer personal auto insurance company, to give Erin Esurance a new look. Erin Esurance will appear as a 3D model, exclusively for a STAR TREK movie-themed Esurance spot that tells audiences to log on to www.esurance.com/StarTrek to get a first look at exclusive content about the upcoming Paramount Pictures release prior to its May 8 opening.

Star Trek Films, Original TV Show Head to Blu-ray

Paramount Home Ent., for the first time, will release all the original STAR TREK films from the '70s and '80s and the original 1960s-era TV show to Blu-ray.

The releases begin April 28 with the seven-disc, 29-episode Blu-ray set of "STAR TREK: The Original Series" from CBS Home Ent. and Paramount Home Ent.

Rodriguez, Dimension Reteam for Nerverackers

SIN CITY and SPY KIDS director Robert Rodriguez will write and direct futuristic thriller NERVERACKERS for Dimension, according to VARIETY.

Set for release on April 16, 2010, the film is set in 2085 and follows a man who is part of an elite unit to quell a crime wave in a "perfect" future society.

Dimension and Rodriguez have released most of the director's work, dating back to FROM DUSK TILL DAWN in 1996 and including the PLANET TERROR half of GRINDHOUSE.

Warner Bros. Buys Some Darkness

Warner Bros. has bought the North American rights to EDGE OF DARKNESS, a thriller starring Mel Gibson and directed by Martin Campbell from production company GK Films, per VARIETY.

Based on the BBC miniseries of the same name, the film is about a veteran homicide detective with the Boston Police Department whose only child is murdered on the steps of his home. Producers were Graham King (THE DEPARTED) and the miniseries producer Michael Wearing.

Snyder Discusses Extended Versions of Watchmen

Director Zack Snyder confirmed that there will be two longer versions of WATCHMEN on Blu-ray and DVD in July at today's press junket in Beverly Hills: an extended "Tales of the Black Freighter" edition, which will run around three-and-a-half hours, and a director's cut (sans the "Black Freighter" animated sequence), which will run about three hours and 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the theatrical cut, which bows in theaters March 6 from Warner Bros., has a running time of approximately 155 minutes.

Anthony Dod Mantle, BSC, DFF, Nelson Cragg and David Stockton earned top honors in the three competitive categories at the 23rd Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Outstanding Achievement Awards held Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. Dod Mantle won the feature film competition for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Cragg topped the episodic TV competition for CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION/"For Gedda" (CBS). Universal is in negotiations for the film rights to Robert Ludlum's THE PARSIFAL MOSAIC, in what could be the first major project for Captivate Ent., the company that controls the rights to Ludlum's novels, per VARIETY.

Universal and Captivate signed an overall deal last year, in the wake of the studio's success with the BOURNE IDENTITY series. Curtis Hanson, Bruckheimer are Gemini

Curtis Hanson is in negotiations with Disney to direct the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced GEMINI MAN, per VARIETY. In the action thriller most recently penned by David Benioff, an NSA agent tries to retire and is targeted for assassination. His would-be assassin is actually a younger cloned version of himself.

Exec producers are Mike Stenson and Chad Oman with Don Murphy. GEMINI MAN has been in development for almost a decade, with Darren Lemke originating the project and other drafts written by Jonathan Hensleigh and others.

Post Logic Studios Expands Film and TV Restoration Services

Post-production facility Post Logic Studios, a division of Prime Focus Group, have expanded their film and television restoration services. The company has been managing restoration work for titles such as HONDO and THE RULES OF THE GAME from their Hollywood facility, and has more than tripled its capacity for restoration work through its relationship with Prime Focus in Goa, India. Restoration projects are still managed and completed at Post Logic in Hollywood, however clients now have the cost-effective option of having film clean-up handled in India.
