NBC's Crusoe Adds U.K.-Flavored Cast

Sam Neill, Sean Bean and Joss Ackland have signed on to the cast of NBC's fall action series CRUSOE, says THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The project is based on Daniel Defoe's novel about dashing and resourceful castaway Crusoe (Philip Winchester) and his companion Friday on a desert island. Not un-LOST-like, the show will give viewers flashbacks that deal with Crusoe's life before his fateful voyage.

Principal photography for TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS, starring Sam Worthington and Christian Bale, is now underway in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS is directed by McG from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. It is a Halcyon Company film from Mortiz Borman Production and a McG Film.

Axis Films Provides Silicon Imaging SI-2K Mini Camera For BT Commercials

Some of the first fruits of Axis Films' investment in a Silicon Imaging SI-2K Mini digital camera system can now be viewed in the form of two TV ads for British Telecom (BT).

Irish production company, 4x4, chose to use the SI-2K Mini from Axis Films after being commissioned by The Heavenly Group to make a pair of commercials promoting BT's newly enhanced consumer broadband offering which were aired in the U.K. at the start of May 2008.

AMD Employs GDDR5 To Fuel Next-Gen ATI Radeon Graphics Solutions

AMD today announced the first commercial implementation of Graphics Double Data Rate, version 5 (GDDR5) memory in its forthcoming next generation of ATI Radeon graphics card products. The high-speed, high-bandwidth GDDR5 technology is expected to become the new memory standard in the industry, and that same performance and bandwidth is a key enabler of The Ultimate Visual Experience, unlocking new GPU capabilities.

AMD is working with a number of leading memory providers, including Samsung, Hynix and Qimonda, to bring GDDR5 to market.

Entity FX Gets In The Spirit

Entity FX, an award-winning film, television and commercial visual effects company in Santa Monica, California, and Vancouver, British Columbia, announced today that it is completing many of the visual effects for the upcoming feature THE SPIRIT from producers Odd Lot Ent. and Lionsgate.

Based on Will Eisner's comic and representing Frank Miller's directorial debut, THE SPIRIT was recently teed up for release this December.

Sci Fi Channel Hits Ratings High With Mystery Of The Crystal Skulls

Sci Fi Channel's new original special MYSTERY OF THE CRYSTAL SKULLS, which premiered on Sunday May 18 and hosted by NBC News' Lester Holt, scored ratings records as the #1 documentary special in Sci Fi history.

The Sunday night special which aired at 9 p.m. brought in a 2.2 household rating 1.4 P18-49, 1.6 P25-54 and 2.8 million total viewers. Sci Fi was the #1 cable network in primetime Sunday and delivered four of the top five P25-54 telecasts for the day and four of the top six P18-49 telecasts, including the #1 telecast of the day in both demos.

DreamWorks will bring legendary pirate Blackbeard's story to the big screen, according to VARIETY.

Writer David Franzoni (DreamWorks' AMISTAD and GLADIATOR) will pen the script about the life of British buccaneer Edward Teach, who became known to history as Blackbeard.

Producers are Barry Josephson (ENCHANTED) and motivational speaker/Philadelphia 76ers president/co-owner Pat Croce, who wrote PIRATE SOUL that chronicled the golden age of piracy (1690-1730).

John Cusack To Topline 2012 For Columbia

John Cusack has signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's apocalyptic thriller 2012 for Columbia Pictures, according to VARIETY.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to join him in the big-budget epic, whose title refers to the end days of human civilization as predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar.

The story starts with a global apocalypse, then chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors. Emmerich and Harald Kloser wrote the script, which Sony bought in February. Barring a Screen Actors Guild strike, shooting will begin in July in Los Angeles.

Cloverfield Sequel Is Iffy

SCI FI WIRE reports that in-demand producer J.J. Abrams is weighing the possibility of working with CLOVERFIELD writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves again, but not on another CLOVERFIELD.

"We're talking about it," Abrams said of CLOVERFIELD 2 during an interview at the Fox upfront presentation for advertisers in New York on May 15, where he was promoting his upcoming Fox series FRINGE. "But the truth is there's another idea that I'd rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It's a whole new thing."
