Nickelodeon will record the best year in its 29-year history, finishing 2008 as basic cable's number-one rated network in total day and first in all kids and tween demos. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS will finish 2008 as the top-rated series for kids 2-11 as it heads into its 10th anniversary year in 2009, and ICARLY ranks as the number-one kids' show on all of television with kids 6-11.

Nickelodeon To Launch New Multiplayer Global Game

Nickelodeon is helping kids get their game on in the name of the environment, beginning Dec. 14 with the launch of THE BIG GREEN HELP GLOBAL CHALLENGE -- the first multiplayer kids' online game with a goal of igniting real-world action for environmental change. Kids will be asked to virtually pledge volunteer hours in the "Global Challenge" that they can translate into actionable steps in their homes, communities and schools.

Big, Big World Expands to Finland, Denmark, Poland and Middle East

Contender Entertainment Group has sold children's puppet-and-animation-based show IT'S A BIG BIG WORLD to television channels in four major territories.

Contender, the company behind preschool properties PEPPA PIG and TRACTOR TOM, holds the international rights for the hit PBS Kids show, which has now secured slots on DR Denmark, YLE Finland, Canal+ Cyfrowy Poland and Al Jazeera Kids in the Middle East.

Senator Barack Obama Declared Winner in Nickelodeon's Biggest Kids' Vote Ever

Senator Barack Obama has been declared the winner of Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids Pick the President "Kids' Vote." A record-breaking number of votes -- upwards of 2.2 million -- were cast in the network's online poll. Nickelodeon has held a "Kids' Vote" every election year since 1988, and kids have correctly predicted the winner in four out of the last five U.S. presidential campaigns.

Star Wars Most Watched Series In Cartoon Network History

The new Lucasfilm Animation series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS on Cartoon Network scored as the most-watched series premiere in network history on Friday.

The one-hour new series premiere was the #1 program from 9-10 p.m. among all major kids networks in kids 6-11, kids 2-11, tweens 9-14, teens 12-7 and persons 2+, earning triple-digit increases compared to the same time period last year.

The weekly, CG-animated series also attracted the largest tweens 9-14 audience for any premiere telecast of an original series in Cartoon Network's 16-year history.

PBS KIDS GO! Debuts Full-Screen Online Video Player

Beginning today, the PBS KIDS GO! Web site is giving early elementary school-aged kids across the country more to explore with the launch of an advertising-free, streaming video player offering hundreds of video clips and dozens of full-length episodes.

Available on both Macs and PCs, the PBS KIDS GO! video player is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and is also available via Web sites of participating local PBS member stations.

Jetix Europe's Web Sites Get New Look

Jetix Europe has announced the redesign of its 19 Web sites across Europe.

In 2007 Jetix Europe's Web sites generated on average 100 million page views per month. The company believes that its re-designed and enhanced sites, which will roll out across Europe from September 2008, will offer kids ages 6 to 14 an even more engaging and fun online experience and as a result increase the traffic and time spent on the sites even further.

Sanrio Goes Green With PlanetPals

Sanrio Far East, a company of Sanrio Group, has added PLANETPALS to their portfolio that includes properties such as SPONGE BOB SQUAREPANTS and DORA THE EXPLORER.

PLANETPALS has entered into an agreement with the licensing group, to exclusively represent PLANETPALS in Japan.

Sanrio F.E. will introduce PLANETPALS characters to the preschool and elementary market and plans to establish a multi-platform presence in Japan as well as develop strategic partnerships with appropriate companies. They will also manage local key partnerships.

Nickelodeon Hits The Big 5-0

On Wednesday morning, Viacom's MTV Networks International will launch Nickelodeon Arabia, the network's 50th global channel.

The Arabic-language channel dedicated exclusively to kids ages 2 to 14 years old, will hit airwaves at 6 a.m. (KSA) tomorrow on free-to-air networks, Arabsat and Nilesat, reaching a potential audience of 190 million viewers across the Middle East.

To provide its audiences with more innovative gaming and virtual world experiences, Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group has formed new Games and Virtual Worlds Groups.

Dave Williams will run the Games Group and Kyra Reppen will lead the Virtual Worlds Group, both under the title of SVP and GM. The announcements were made by Steve Youngwood, Exec VP, Digital Media, to whom Williams and Reppen report.

Nickelodeon To Launch In Southern Africa July 1

African pay-TV operator MultiChoice Africa has signed a multi-year distribution deal with MTV Networks International to carry leading kids' entertainment brand, Nickelodeon, in southern Africa.

Starting July 1, 2008, Nickelodeon will launch as a 24-hour English language channel, broadcasting to more than 1.5 million DStv subscribers in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
