‘Dune,’ ‘The Mitchells vs the Machines,’ and ‘What If…?’ Take Home Critics Choice Awards

Warner Bros. Entertainment’s Dune and Sony Pictures Animation’s The Mitchells vs the Machines each took home awards at last night’s 27^th Annual Critics Choice Awards. Disney+’s What If…? was also honored at the Sunday evening ceremony. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic continues its awards season dominance, while the SPA animated comedy-adventure scored its second big award of the weekend following its win for best animated feature at the 49^th Annie Awards, one of eight it took home at the Saturday evening ceremony.

Dune had scored a whopping 10 nominations: Best Picture; Best Director – Denis Villeneuve; Best Adapted Screenplay – Jon Spaihts, Denis Villeneuve, Eric Roth; Best Cinematography – Greig Fraser; Best Production Design – Patrice Vermette, Zsuzsanna Sipos; Best Editing – Joe Walker; Best Costume Design – Jacqueline West, Robert Morgan; Best Hair And Makeup; Best Visual Effects; and Best Score – Hans Zimmer.

Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley had scored 8 nominations, while Encanto and Flee each received two.
