WATCH: Netflix Releases New Trailer for ‘Next Gen’ Feature

Charlyne Yi and John Krasinski lead the voice cast in Chinese-Canadian animated co-production about an unlikely friendship between a rebellious girl and a runaway combat robot.

Netflix has unveiled a brand-new trailer and poster for Next Gen, the animated action-adventure film about the bittersweet power of memories. It tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a rebellious girl named Mai and a runaway combat robot, numbered 7723, as they unite to stop a madman’s plan for technological world domination.

Written and directed by Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander, Next Gen is produced by Javier Zhang, Jeff Bell, Ken Zorniak, Patricia Hicks, Charlene Kelly and Olivia Hao. The Chinese-Canadian co-production was produced by China’s Baozou Manhua and Toronto-based Tangent Animation. Netflix picked up worldwide rights (excluding China) to the film at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in a deal reported to be valued at $30 million.

Starring John Krasinski, David Cross, Michael Peña, Charlyne Yi, Jason Sudeikis and Constance Wu, Next Gen arrives on Netflix starting September 7.
