Russian Official Demands ‘Family Guy’ Ban for Offensive Skit

Chelyabinsk deputy Yana Lantratova calls for a total ban of the series in Russia after claiming a recent episode depicted the city and its people in an unfavorable light.

Controversial adult animated series Family Guy has offended again! Sakes alive! This time, according to Newsweek, a recent skit has been labeled “deliberately offensive” by a Russian official.

The offending material comes from the 21st season’s two-part finale episodes “From Russia with Love” and “Adult Education,” where Meg travels to Russia and dates Ivan, a hacker. Her budding relationship inspires her to sing a parody of a Beauty and the Beast song about the city of Chelyabinsk.

The depiction of the city and its people during the musical montage has led the region’s deputy, Yana Lantratova, to call for a total ban of the series in Russia. "The artist has the right to his vision, but this is a deliberately offensive artistic image that has nothing to do with reality," Lantratova said via the Eastern European outlet Nexta. "This is a deliberate work against our country. Information warfare through artistic works. They deliberately create an image of Russia as a country where everyone is unhappy with life, drinking, using drugs, taking bribes."

While Lantratova objects to the depiction of Chelyabinsk, Twitter’s Eastern European expert Sergej Sumlenny cheekily comments that the portrayal was quite accurate.

no, but I have seen real Chelyabinsk, and this video is very authentic :) pic.twitter.com/N7OsOaDPqN

Regardless of opinion, offending the audience is nothing new for Family Guy, and is even expected. If the series hasn’t been cancelled or banned yet, it probably won’t be any time soon.
