Mainframe Expands Into Consumer Products

Mainframe Entertainment has announced its expansion into the consumer products area with a new strategic alliance with licensing and merchandising veteran Joy Tashjian. Previously with American Champion Marketing Group, Tashjian launched successful consumer product campaigns for many ABC Saturday morning television series. With American Champion shifting its focus away from the traditional entertainment business, Tashjian has formed her own agency, Joy Tashjian Marketing Group, with many of the staff from American Champion.

FLASHBANG 3

Flashbang announces FLASHBANG 3, the third installation and screening of cinematic and interactive Flash films. The event will feature cinematic Flash films shown on the big screen, as well as kiosks allowing attendees to explore interactive Flash media up close and personal. All films will also be added to flashbangonline.com after the show. Along with Flash based media, submissions of non-motion digital art will also be accepted for viewing in Eleven50's gallery the evening of the event.

11th Edition Of The Montreal First Peoples' Festival

TERRES EN VUES/LAND InSIGHTS, an association created to promote native culture, is presenting the 11th Edition of the Montreal First Peoples' Festival. The event highlights films made by American natives and about native issues and topics. Selected films and videos will be in competition, unless the filmmaker wishes them to be screened only. Awards will be given on June 17, during a special event. To be eligible for competition, the work must have been produced no more than 3 years before the festival.

Dudok de Wit Takes Top Honors At Annecy

The Oscar winner for best short animated film, FATHER AND DAUGHTER, has won the coveted grand prize at the International Festival of Animated Film at Annecy. In an elaborate and festive closing ceremony held on Saturday, June 9, 2001, the awards were handed out by the festivals artistic director, Serge Bromberg.

Akira Artwork Exhibition And Art Installation

Silicon Pulp animation gallery is celebrating Katsuhiro Otomo's anime opus, AKIRA, with Akira! Akira! Akira!, an exhibition of rarely seen artwork, merchandise, manga and more. Produced in 1988 and based on his cyber-active manga classic of the same name, Otomo's groundbreaking film is the best known and arguably still the best anime to emerge from Japan. The two-hour epic took over one billion yen, 2,200 shots and 160,000 animation cels to make - more than twice the number used in most Hollywood feature-length animation at the time. Akira! Akira! THQ Ships Disney's Atlantis For Game Boy Color

THQ Inc. has released DISNEY'S ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE, based on the upcoming Disney animated feature, for Game Boy Color. A Game Boy Advance version is scheduled for the fall. Players can choose to play as Milo, Vinny, Moliere or Audrey as they explore through 10 levels of movie-based gameplay in search of the lost city of Atlantis. Filmcore's Chubak Turns Heads With 4-Spot Campaign For Ford

FilmCore's Charlie Chubak has wrapped four new spots for the Ford Dealers of Southern California and agency Dailey & Associates. "Head Turner" follows two guys swiveling their heads a full 180-degrees to see a red Ford Mustang. "Out of Focus" follows a blurred human form as it gets out of bed and leaves the house. Only when the character turns the ignition of its Ford Focus does the man come into focus. "Weekends" mixes shots of Ford SUVs with poppy graphics, while "Truck Size" featured no visual enhancement.

TOPIX Creates Fabuloso Effects For Colgate-Palmolive

TOPIX has recently completed the online and CGI for a 30-second spot promoting Colgate-Palmolive's household cleaner, Fabuloso. Featuring a Carmen Miranda look-alike, "Conga" was developed through ad agency Young & Rubicam (Mexico City, Mexico), and debuted in Mexico and Uruguay in May, with a debut in Panama, Ecuador and Columbia set for June and July. After cleaning her dishes with Fabuloso, a Brazilian bombshell and two trumpet players jump from the clean plates, inspiring Mom, son and the family dog to dance a conga line around the kitchen.

Loose Moose Springs Cheese Trapeze For Kraft

London-based Loose Moose, producers of the award-winning stop-motion Pepsi-Lipton BRISK tea campaign, has expanded into 2D CGI by joining with the directing duo of Neville Astley and Mark Baker. The team's first spot for Loose Moose was a spot entitled "Cheese Trapeze" for the Kraft Cheese Singles campaign "Working with CelAction 2D software, we have been able to bring a contemporary look to the Kraft Cheese Singles spot using bright colors, highly stylized characters and animation with flavors of Japanimation," Astley said.

Cartoon Network Sweeps May With Ratings Records

Last month Cartoon Network set new May total day ratings and delivery network records, posting double-digit ratings and delivery growth across households and all key kids demographics. Total day ratings grew 10% in households (1.1) as well as 10% for tweens 9-14 (1.1) and kids 2-11 (2.2), and 19% in kids 6-11 (1.9). Total day delivery increased 18% in households (767,000), 26% in tweens 9-14 (191,000), 31% in kids 6-11 (315,000) and 28% in kids 2-11 (616,000).

Acclaim Promotes Stein To VP Of Brand

Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., a worldwide interactive entertainment company, announced that it has promoted Evan Stein to the position of VP of brand. In the new role, Stein will head up the company's brand management including product delivery, forecasting and budgeting, as well as Acclaim's marketing and public relations departments and two advertising agencies. TBS Latin America has named Darlene Cordero creative director of print and design for Cartoon Network Latin America. Cordero will be responsible for Cartoon Network Latin America's off-channel creative image and communication, developing print creative for Marketing, Public Relations and Ad Sales in the Latin American market. In addition, shell team with the on-air and Web production teams to strengthen the link between on-air, Web and print promotions. She will be based out of Atlanta.

The Canadian Film Centre's Worldwide Short Film Festival

The Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival has changed its name to the Canadian Film Centre's Worldwide Short Film Festival. Founded by Brenda Sherwood in 1994, the festival was acquired by the Canadian Film Centre in 2000. The Canadian Film Centre is Canada's foremost institution for advanced training and production in film, television and new media. In addition to competition screenings of international and Canadian shorts, the festival will feature panels, symposiums, special presentations, retrospectives and gala screenings.
