eDward Travels in Time for 2006 Young Filmmaker’s Award

For the seventh year running the eDIT Filmmakers Festival is holding its international competition for up-and-coming filmmakers under 30. The organizers are looking for films that sum up the subject of time travel in only 30 seconds, the length of a classic advertising spot.

Nobody knows the future, and nobody knows what the past was really like. How would it be if we could travel into the past and intervene in the course of history? Or look into the future and find out if todays decisions were the right ones?

Ray Bradbury Future Fest This Weekend!

Ray Bradbury Future Fest is a celebration organized by California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) School of Film/Video faculty member E. Michael Mitchell, in association with J.R. Smith, alumni and select advanced students from School of Film/Video Program in Character Animation. The event presents artwork and film exploring the writings of sci-fi master Ray Bradbury, who will make several unscheduled appearances at the event.

Pixar to Go its Own Way

It's official: Pixar has concluded discussions to extend its long-term partnership with The Walt Disney Co., and will go its own way as a potential indie powerhouse with its own strong brand identity. The Emeryville, California-based CG animation studio still has two features to deliver to Disney: THE INCREDIBLES in 2004 and CARS in 2005, but is now free to continue negotiations for a distribution deal with another studio. Last August, Pixar chairman and ceo Steve Jobs initiated talks with Fox and Warner Bros.

FOX BOX Taps Universal For Future Series

In one of its few buys of an American animation series, 4Kids Entertainment's FOX BOX has added BACK TO THE FUTURE from Universal Cartoon Studios to its Saturday morning lineup, starting March 22, 2003 at 8:30 am. Based on the popular feature film trilogy, BACK TO THE FUTURE series debuted on 1991 on CBS, starring Christopher Lloyd in live-action wrap-arounds featuring scientific demonstrations by Bill Nye, the host of BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY. In the animated segments, Doc Brown was voiced by Dan Castellaneta, best known as the voice of Homer Simpson.

The Future Animators of the Future (www.fafcom.com) is pleased to present the second annual FAF show. The show will run through November 2001, playing in Boston, New York City and San Francisco. It will be a great chance to meet some independent animation and video artists.
