Digital Musings From the Editor:

With the Academy Awards just around the corner on Sunday, I had the chance to speak with three of the supervisors vying for the visual effects Oscar: John Dykstra (SPIDER-MAN 2), Andy Jones (I, ROBOT) and Tim Burke (HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN). But instead of asking them about their most difficult challenges or favorite achievements, I asked their views on each others work. Their responses provide an intriguing snapshot of where we currently are in visual effects and might be headed in the near future. Good luck to all three nominees.

And speaking of the future of vfx, Peter Plantec does a little prognosticating of his own in his second Digital Eye column. Plug-in to the virtual world where animation and vfx seamlessly merge and everything is possible.
