Disney Channel is lining up holiday-themed editions of its most popular primetime and Playhouse Disney programs to air throughout the month of December.

Roy Disney at True-Life DVD Release Celebration Tonight

Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at 7:30 pm, the American Cinematheque will be hosting a screening of Walt Disney's TRUE-LIFE ADVENTURES films in celebration of the DVD release. The TRUE-LIFE ADVENTURES -- a series of 13 groundbreaking film shorts and short features released between 1948-1960 that captured the wonder of animals and nature and won eight Academy Awards -- epitomize the magic of Walt Disney.

Nina Jacobson Signs First-Look with DreamWorks

Nina Jacobson has signed a three-year, first-look agreement at DreamWorks Studios, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. This deal comes six months after she was removed as head of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group. The new agreement goes into effect in January.

Jacobson previously worked at DreamWorks as a senior film exec prior to taking the post of president of the motion picture division at Disney in 1998. At DreamWorks, she developed hits, such as WHAT LIES BENEATH and ANTZ, for which she is credited as formulating the original idea.

Disney Feature Animation to Layoff 20% of Staff

Walt Disney Co. will cut about 20% of its staff in the feature animation division. Animation Guild business representative Steve Hulett told REUTERS that between 70 to 140 people would lose their jobs either at the end of February or beginning of March. Employees will be informed of who will be cut on Dec. 11 or 12, 2006, Hulett said.

Al Rocker on JoJo's Circus & Giant Balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

NBC TODAY SHOW weather & feature reporter Al Roker guest stars as the voice of Normus the giant in a new episode of Playhouse Disney's JOJO'S CIRCUS, premiering Nov. 20, 2006, with a rebroadcast on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 in a six-hour block of TV's first movement-focused series. JoJo will also fly as a giant balloon in the 80th anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the first-ever balloon to feature "movement" -- juggling.

BAMBI II makes its world television premiere on Toon Disney's Big Movie Show at 5:00 pm on Nov. 3, 2006. The direct-to-DVD sequel released Feb. 7, concerns the tender relationship between Bambi (voiced by Alexander Gould of FINDING NEMO) and his father, The Great Prince of the Forest (Patrick Stewart), following the death of his mother.

Disney Draws Up Animated Live-Action Flick

Disney has bought the rights to ANIMATED AMERICAN, a live-action/animation hybrid that deals with the issue of teens trying to fit in, VARIETY reports. Producers will be Bob Cooper's Landscape Ent. and ImageMovers partners Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke.

Peter Ackerman (ICE AGE) is set to write the screenplay, which will follow an animated outsider, who lives in a live-action world and must deal with his girlfriend leaving him while hes away at sea.

Nightmare Bows in Disney Digital 3-D

Tim Burtons THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS makes its debut today (Oct. 20, 2006) in a Disney Digital 3-D version in 168 theaters. It began its engagement at Hollywoods El Capitan Theatre yesterday.

The enormously popular stop-motion animated feature from 1993, directed by Henry Selick, is the first movie in industry history to be released exclusively in Digital 3-D, and represents the first time that a 3-D feature has been created from an existing animated classic.

Disney Channel Orders Third Season of Charlie And Lola

Disney Channel has ordered a third season of CHARLIE AND LOLA, the preschool series about a pair of supportive siblings, for its learning-focused Playhouse Disney programming block.

"The series does a wonderful job of showcasing preschool-age life lessons through the special bond siblings have," said Nancy Kanter, svp, original programming, Disney Channel. "We are delighted that Charlie and Lola's tender and humorous relationship will continue to warm the hearts of our young viewers and their parents and caregivers."

The Walt Disney Co. honored legendary songwriter Sir Elton John, as well as 11 additional inductees, including the late Pixar animation story artist, Joe Ranft, with the prestigious Disney Legends Award during a ceremony at The Walt Disney Co. headquarters this afternoon (Oct. 9, 2006). Presiding over the ceremony was Disney president and ceo Robert A. Iger, and his fellow presenters included Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios; Roy E. Disney to Develop Jungle Cruise Feature

Following the record-breaking success OF PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST, Walt Disney Pictures has initiated another movie project based on a Disneyland ride: The Jungle Cruise, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

SMALLVILLE showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar are in talks to write JUNGLE CRUISE, an adventure movie and potential franchise that is being produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman through their Mandeville Films label.

The ride was one of the 22 original attractions when the park opened in 1955.

The ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive is presenting an exhibit of drawings by legendary Disney artists, including Milt Kahl, Bill Tytla, Freddie Moore, Grim Natwick, Les Clark, Ub Iwerks, Art Babbitt, Marc Davis, Preston Blair, John Lounsbery, Ward Kimball, John Sibley, Norm Ferguson and more.

On display are sketches from Disney's earliest days (ALICE IN CARTOONLAND, OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT), the early sound era (MICKEY MOUSE, SILLY SYMPHONIES) through the classic features (SNOW WHITE, PINOCCHIO, SLEEPING BEAUTY).

Animation Legend Ed Benedict Dies

Animation legend Ed Benedict passed away in his sleep on Aug. 28, 2006. He was 94.

In 1930, Benedict began his animation career at Disney, working on such shorts as THE CHINA PLATE and BLUE RHYTHM. Benedict left Disney and moved to Universal to work on Walter Lantzs OSWALD shorts, beginning with THE DIZZY DWARF. Universal would remain his home for most of the 1930s, minus short periods at the Charles Mintz Studio and the time he formed his own studio, Benedict-Brewer, with Jerry Brewer.

Thousands Toon-up for Disney ToonFest

Disney is expecting thousands of fans to show up for its first-ever ToonFest, the sold-out fan fest dedicated to the family-friendly videogame, Disneys TOONTOWN ONLINE.
