‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ scribe is reportedly set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film, the latest installment in the cinematic franchise acquired by Disney from 21st Century Fox in 2019.

Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) is in talks to pen Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men feature film installment, according to Variety. The last X-Men theatrical outing was X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019.

The rights to the cinematic franchise were acquired by Disney in 2019 from 21st Century Fox. No further details have been revealed regarding a director, plot, or cast. Kevin Feige will produce.

While the project will serve as Marvel’s first official X-Men film, the recently released Disney+ animated series X-Men ’97 has garnered rave reviews. Deadpool & Wolverine will also feature multiple X-Men characters, including High Jackman’s Logan, who previously appeared in 20th Century Fox’s version of the franchise.
