With VFXWorld editor Bill Desowitz away covering NAB in Las Vegas, its my turn to fill all our readers in on what is happening on the site. In celebration of NAB, we have two new software reviews. XSI guru Ed Harriss takes a look at the latest version of Softimages flagship 3D program. Additionally, Fred Galpern cracks open a copy of Carrara from Eovia to tell use whether the software is worth its price tag.

In our continuing efforts to cover all the top visual effects features, Alain Beliek has two in-depth articles on films that have just arrived in theaters in the U.S. He chronicles the making of the horrifying creatures created for the box office champ, SILENT HILL. In addition, he looks into how visual effects were essential for political thriller THE SENTINAL to keep its White House location. For THE SENTINAL, we have some great progression clips of how the effects came together. Check it out.
