‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ Canceled Right After Emmy Win

Netflix has decided to end production on the fantasy adventure series despite its win at this past Saturday’s 2020 Creative Arts Emmys ceremony, leaving fans hanging on the future of the world of Thra.

Netflix’s highly touted episodic fantasy adventure series, The Jim Henson Company’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, will NOT be returning for Season 2, despite its win for Outstanding Children’s Program at this past Saturday’s 2020 Creative Arts Emmys ceremony. Today, the streaming giant announced the series’ cancellation.

A prequel to Jim Henson’s epic 1982 fantasy film, The Dark Crystal, the episodic fantasy adventure was a continuation of the exploration of the world of Thra, the quest of three Gelfings, and their fight to unite their clans against the tyrannical Skeksis. The series premiered on Netflix to critical acclaim in August 2019.

As reported by Deadline, executive producer Lisa Henson commented, “We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future.”

Small consolation to fans longing to see the next chapter and learn the future of Thra.
