Animated ‘X-Files’ Comedy in Development at FOX

The Truth is Out There in 2D: Chris Carter will executive produce the spin-off, with Bento Box set to animate.

The Truth is Out There… as a 2D cartoon? FOX Entertainment has announced that an animated comedy spinoff of their beloved The X-Files series, The X-Files: Albuquerque, has entered development. Series creator Chris Carter and his Ten Thirteen Productions, along with Gabe Rotter, will executive produce. Rocky Russo & Jeremy Sosenko (Paradise PD) will write the pilot and also executive produce. Bento Box will produce the animation; 20th Television will produce alongside FOX.

The show will definitely not follow in the footsteps of the famed dynamic Muldur and Scully duo. The show will instead be centered around an office full of misfit agents who investigate the X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They're basically the X-Files' B-team.

The X-Files franchise included the original series, which ran on Fox for nine seasons (1993-2002), two feature films (1998 and 2008), and another two season TV run from 2016-2018. While FOX seemingly had no further plans for the show, Carter obviously felt differently.
