Film School Zlin Summer Animation Workshop is an intensive two-week program designed to provide English-speaking participants with an introduction to traditional animation techniques, Czech animation history and Czech culture. Participants do not need any prior experience with animation but we do look in participants the desire to work as part of a creative team and a curiosity to learn about this part of the world.

The International Animation Festival of Brazil, Anima Mundi 2009 takes place from July 10 to 19 in Rio de Janeiro and from July 22 to 26 in Sao Paulo.

2nd International Animated Film Festival Animator 2009

Animator 2009 offers film retrospectives of renowned animators, premieres, concerts, meetings with artists, exhibitions, performances, workshops and a range of special and thematic screenings, including screenings with live music, outdoor screenings, screenings for children and the open international competition for animated films up to 30 minutes with Grand Prix of 60,000 PLN/12,000 Euros. Chris Landreth : Psychorealism and 3D Animation : Moving Beyond the Uncanny Valley

Oscar winning animation director Chris Landreth is one of the true legends of the contemporary creative animation scene. Landreth has been at the absolute forefront of computer animation development for a decade. His films -- THE END, BINGO and RYAN -- represented groundbreaking leaps in pushing technology to its limits to show the breadth of what animation was capable of depicting on the screen. Landreth was nominated for an Academy Award for THE END, with RYAN winning the Oscar for Best Short Animation in 2005.

Animation Club presents Secret Handshake -- Cupcakes Edition

ANIMATION CLUB!!! presents 'Secret Handshake', a monthly animation night at Loop Bar in Melbourne. Each month, animators from all around the world create a short animation upon a given topic which is then screened and voted upon by the audience. The winner receives fame and glory... and gets to choose the next month's topic.

All animation styles are welcome - from hand-drawn, flash, claymation, stop motion, pixellation -- or any combination of these. However -- it must be animated! No live action allowed!

Neum Animated Film Festival 2009

The Neum Animated Film Festival will take place from June 29-July 5 in Neum. The festival has two parts: a "working" festival where children can learn animation techniques, and the competition section of the festival where cartoons from all over the world are presented.

Cartoon selection is done by children who attend the working festival, and make decisions about all awards except for the Jury award.

Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009

Edinburgh International Film Festival is delighted to welcome American animator Don Hertzfeldt. He will introduce a retrospective of his work at the Cameo Cinema on the 21st of June at 6pm, featuring the UK premier of his latest film I AM SO PROUD OF YOU, the eagerly anticipated continuation of EVERYTHING WILL BE OK.

Following the screening, Hertzfeldt will speak about his films. In all they have won over a hundred awards, including Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Award.

Kecskemet Animation Film Festival 2009

KAFF includes two different competitions: one for European animated feature films and TV specials and one for Hungarian animated short films.

In addition to the film screenings musical and theatrical shows, exhibitions and professional discussions will take place in town. Kecskemet is a small town with 100,000 inhabitants, with several arts workshops and with a lively cultural life, 80 km south of Budapest.

Entry works -- Feature (min. 52 minutes) and TV-Special (min.24 minutes) -- shall be made "frame by frame", including computer graphics animation.

Admission is $6, $4 for seniors and children 12 and younger.
