While no details are known of the plot or other returning cast or crew, the starlet has signed on to a third film; the franchise follows a vengeful fairy who teams with the adorable Princess Aurora to once again bring peace between the humans and the fairies.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, starlet Angelina Jolie revealed she has signed on to reprise her eponymous role in Maleficent 3. While no other details are currently known, fans can look forward to at least one more pointy-cheeked performance.
In Maleficent, the classic evil witch-turned-dragon is revealed to be a once-peaceful fairy who was betrayed by the King but finds love in her heart again for the adorable Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). In the cinematic follow-up Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) attempts to break the peace pact between humans and fairies established by Aurora and Maleficent by waging a war to eliminate the magical creatures.
No word yet on whether Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning or other members of the previous creative teams will return to the franchise. For the second film, MPC facilities in Montreal, Vancouver, London, and Bangalore created 2,168 VFX shots with additional help provided by Mill Film in Montreal.
Maleficent streams now on Starz, Prime Video, and Hulu, while Maleficent: Mistress of Evil streams on Disney+.
In the meantime, Jolie is currently filming Pablo Larraín's Maria, a biopic of the opera singer Maria Callas. She will also reprise her Master Tigress role in Kung-Fu Panda 4, out March 8, 2024.
