9 Story Lays Off Nearly 3% of Workforce, Switches NY Staff to Remote

The media group known for ‘Let’s Go, Bananas!’ and ‘Dee & Friends in Oz’ has downsized its workforce and temporarily sublet its Manhattan office space, citing ‘current market conditions’ for the move.

The layoffs continue. 9 Story Media Group (Let’s Go, Bananas!, Dee & Friends in Oz) has laid off almost 3% of its workforce and temporarily sublet its Manhattan office space, with its NY staff now working remotely, reports Kidscreen. The company says the move, which also affects its teams in Toronto and Dublin, is due to current market conditions.

“Given the current industry slowdown that is affecting everyone, 9 Story has made a few organizational changes to better reflect the needs of the business moving forward,” commented a 9 Story spokesperson in a statement. “We have made some headcount reductions in Toronto, New York, and as per Irish law, have commenced a redundancy process in Dublin. Total reductions represent less than 3% of the total workforce.”

“New York will continue to be a hub for development, creative partnerships, research, curriculum and interactive initiatives, with staff working remotely,” the statement continued. “Production efforts will remain concentrated at our studio facilities in Toronto, Dublin and Bali. Like everyone, we are rightsizing the business to match current production volumes.”

9 Story has not responded to an AWN email inquiry.

The company, which recently acquired Portfolio Entertainment and launched a YouTube channel,  is currently developing a Judy Moody animated series.
