Women in Animation SF/Bay Area Resurrection Meeting

Woman in Animation (WIA) will be hosting an event for the purpose of RESURRECTING the San Francisco/Bay Area chapter.

The first meeting will be infomational/social/networking oriented. Participants are invited to bring ideas on activities (networking, educational, social) they would like to see happen in a local chapter.

This event welcomes all (that means guys too!) persons currently working in animation in any capacity.

The event will take place from 5-7 pm at Fenix Graph X Studios in the Financial District. RSVP is required.

Giant Screen Theater Association 2001 Conference & Trade Show

The six-day conference will debut the results of the GSTA recently released Economic Impact Study, a comprehensive examination of the quantitative and qualitative factors that affect how large format films are produced, distributed and exhibited. The conference will also feature up to 12 new giant screen films and 4 short films and will introduce a nightly "wrap party" for attendees to network and expound on the events of the day.

The Model Making Essentials For 2001 & Beyond Conference is organized by the Association of Professional Model Makers. The 4-day event will feature model shop tours and technical workshops. The program includes: Friday and Monday: model shop tours to premier locations such as Mattel, Walt Disney Imagineering, Gentle Giant Studios, CTEK, Pacific Miniatures, TRW Space & Electronics, Art Center College of Design and the Jet Propulsion Lab; and Saturday and Sunday: Technical Essential Skills Workshops.

A fee of $8 for WIA members and $10 for non-members is charged to cover the cost of the engineer for the workout session. The group will meet in a space donated by Earthsalt, formerly Horta. The studio is located at 724 S. Victory Blvd., Burbank, California. Enter studio B, through the parking lot at the rear of the building.

EdgeTech: Emerging Technologies Showcase

The Consumer Electronics Association (C.E.A.) and JEDEC issued a call for speakers for their new conference, EdgeTech: Emerging Technologies Showcase, featuring the latest semiconductor and consumer technology. EdgeTech will consist of three tracks, the first educating attendees on how to build the technology, the second explaining how to produce and sell the technology, and the final track showcasing technology in the marketplace. Companies can also display new technologies recently available on the market in five-minute demonstrations.

Vancouver Film School Presentation at Siggraph

The Vancouver Film School presents a seminar on "Careers in 3D Animation" at SIGGRAPH 2001. The free seminar will be held on the SIGGRAPH exhibition floor on Thursday August 16 from 10 to noon. Graeme Gish, director of programming - New Media and Animation Studies - will be the speaker. The session includes a screening of student work, a comprehensive overview of the Vancouver Film School's 3D Animation programs, a discussion of career opportunities and a question and answer period.
