The six-day conference will debut the results of the GSTA recently released Economic Impact Study, a comprehensive examination of the quantitative and qualitative factors that affect how large format films are produced, distributed and exhibited. The conference will also feature up to 12 new giant screen films and 4 short films and will introduce a nightly "wrap party" for attendees to network and expound on the events of the day.

Women in Animation-LA Chapter, Voice Over Group, is hosting a workout with Ginny McSwain, of Voice Overs. The Vancouver Film School presents a seminar on "Careers in 3D Animation" at SIGGRAPH 2001. The free seminar will be held on the SIGGRAPH exhibition floor on Thursday August 16 from 10 to noon. Graeme Gish, director of programming - New Media and Animation Studies - will be the speaker. The session includes a screening of student work, a comprehensive overview of the Vancouver Film School's 3D Animation programs, a discussion of career opportunities and a question and answer period.

Side Effects Software will host a free seminar at SIGGRAPH 2001 to address increasing worldwide demand for Houdini skills and Certified Houdini Trainers. The event will appeal to school staff with plans to expand their 3D animation offerings and trainers interested in augmenting their existing skill set to take advantage of employment opportunities.

The 8th World Animation Celebration (WAC) will present awards to the best new animated works from around the world. Events include; The World Animation screenings; The World Animation competition; The Animation Hall of Fame ceremony; six one-day animation business conferences; four days of animation seminars and classes; two days of animation career planning sessions; The World Animation Marketplace and Recruitment Expo; The Battle of the Animation Studios Synchronized Swimming Teams; networking parties and receptions; and a one-day animation educators conference.

The 4th Annual Disney Institute Animation Event is a 6-day/5-night workshop at the Disney Institute. Among the special presenters already scheduled for this year's event are Don Hahn, producer of ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE and THE LION KING, and the host for the week, Jeff Kurtti, author of ATLANTIS: THE JOURNAL OF MILO THATCH, and THE ART OF MULAN. The price is US$1,399 per person for two people staying in the same room and $1,785 per person for single occupancy.

DISCOP is a television market covering over 30 emerging television markets in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia and Caucasus. In conjunction with the market, DISCOP 2001 will present two new features: The WebTV East Exhibition, an exhibition of technological Web-based solutions that promote television brands and video content on-line; and the DISCOP Campus Sessions, a program of thematic sessions covering the production, marketing and promotion of television content in Central and Eastern Europe.
