‘Wings of Fire’ Animated Series Moves to Amazon

Adaptation of the popular children’s books by Tui T. Sutherland has found a new home at Amazon MGM Studios after being shelved at Netflix in 2022 amid company layoffs.

Here’s to second chances. Wings of Fire, the animated series adaptation of the popular children’s book series by Tui T. Sutherland, has found its new home at Amazon MGM Studios, according to Variety. Originally in development at Netflix, the project was axed in 2022 alongside the preschool program Antiracist Baby and the children’s film With Kind Regards From Kindergarten amid company layoffs.

First announced in April of 2021, Wings of Fire was executive produced by Ava DuVernay and would have consisted of 10 episodes. Like its source material, the series was intended to tell the story of “dragon tribes at war in a generations-long battle over a lost treasure.”

The official logline for the series states, “Five young dragons have been raised in secret, destined by prophecy to end a terrible war. But when one of their own is threatened, they decide to escape and find their own fate—saving themselves and the rest of their world along the way.”

The Amazon series will have a new creative team, with Marc Resteghini (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jack Ryan) set to executive produce for Jack Tar Productions. There is currently no writer attached to the project.
