MeTV Adds ‘Woody Woodpecker and Friends’

Coming next month, the mischievous Woody and his friends join ‘Saturday Morning Cartoons,’ a 3-hour block featuring classic cartoon collections, including ‘Popeye & Pals,’ ‘The Tom & Jerry Show’ and ‘Bugs Bunny & Friends.’

MeTV welcomes Woody Woodpecker and Friends to its Saturday Morning Cartoons line-up starting Saturday, September 2, presenting timeless cartoon shorts featuring the mischievous Woody and his colorful cast of friends, including Chilly Willy, The Beary Family, Inspector Willoughby, and Any Panda.

The network has acquired over 360 Woody Woodpecker cartoon shorts, from 1934 to 1972, including notable shorts, Knock Knock featuring Woody Woodpecker’s debut; the Oscar-nominated The Dizzy Acrobat; The Beach Nut, Wally Walrus’ first appearance; Wet Blanket Policy with Buzz Buzzard’s first appearance; and The Barber of Seville, the first short that introduced the classic title card with Woody’s iconic opening routine. It also secured four animated gems directed by Tex Avery: I’m Cold, Crazy Mixed Up Pup, The Legend of Rockabye Point, and Sh-h-h-h-h.

MeTV’s weekly three-hour Saturday Morning Cartoons block is reminiscent of the Saturday morning broadcasts of the past. Each hour presents a collection of cartoons featuring Popeye and Pals, Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker & Friends, and Bugs Bunny & Friends.
