Greta Gerwig to Helm ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ Film for Netflix

The ‘Barbie’ director scores deal to head at least two films from the iconic fantasy franchise, bringing to life the film and TV rights Netflix secured in 2018.

From Barbie World straight to Narnia! Greta Gerwig is set to helm an upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix. According to the New Yorker, Gerwig has a deal to direct at least two films from the Narnia franchise.

Netflix acquired the film and TV rights to the C.S. Lewis novel series in 2018, yet the franchise to date has been gathering dust. Said Ted Sarandos at the time, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

Disney previously developed The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005, Prince Caspian in 2008, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010, which touted impressive feats of VFX from MPC, Framestore, Weta Digital, ScanlineVFX, Studio C, Cinesite, The Senate, and The Mill.

While we must wait patiently for further details on Narnia, Gerwig’s Barbie is currently performing well at the box office, already earning a cool $80 million in the North American market.
