This tribute issue of Animation World Magazine celebrates Bill's tremendous legacy and hopefully will introduce his work to an entire new generation of animation professionals, students and historians. Over the years, Bill wrote 13 articles for AWN, all of which are republished in their entirety. In addition, this issue includes a number of other articles related to his work, as well as special tributes from more than two dozen colleagues and institutions within the international animation community
Bill's tragic passing March 12, on the heels of the publication of his life's work, OPTICAL POETRY: THE LIFE AND WORK OF OSKAR FISCHINGER, leaves a tremendous void in the animation community. He brought passion and enthusiasm to his films, his writing, his teaching and to everyone he met. It is our hope that this tribute issue captures some of the flavor of his work, his philosophy and the impact he had on our industry.
