Mummy(wip)

here's what I have so far for my practice thingy...i still need to tweak the mummy, but it's too late to think of how. i don't know why it's a little odd, did it the same way as Bobo. and i'm not sure just what the weird hiccup thing is on the fadeout, it's my first mask.

i like it especially the music.

i think that you could use a little more hand movement with the mummy though.

keep it up your doing great! :D

yeah, i think it'll be best to give the mummy longer/slower strides. And put a bit more movement into the arms when his feet hit the ground.

yah, the mummy is quite bulky and large. Larger heavier strides would probably look better. Maybe a few more inbetweens too, get some smoothness goin.

its cool though. i like the characters.

Great character designs Deadsquid. Very cute. You need to get the hang of doing cycles that loop. I know ur just learning Flash and animation. Great start. The animation is a bit even, like 4 frames up, 4 frame down. 4 frames up... You could break it up a little. Also the monkey's arm isn't moving with his legs, and thats a little strange. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. =) Actually they are looping. They were thrown off a wee bit when I tweaked the scrolling of the background. I still have to get the hang of just where to place things.

The music runs for a couple hundred frames. So on the main timeline it seemed wisest to put everything inside the background. even the background's animation. Because I think on the main stage it was scrolling too slow even at 24fps.

I'm glad you spotted Bobo's arm....i don't know why it's off. It wasn't. I'd fixed it to be in proper time. I even took a couple practice runs through the house myself. Oh well, it's an easy enough fix.

Thanks again, all for the comments. And I welcome any and all pointers! I think I'm gonna do so much better here than the place I used to hang around. =)

That would make a sweet intro to a website. I like the background!

Thank ye. =)

Oh, and the link is now the updated version. Bobo's arm is now swinging better and the mummy's steps are bigger. =)

Once I have all this working and finished. I'm thinking of adding another scene with the cleche hall of many doors! now just to find scooby-doo-esque music.

much better i think its done great job! :D

Nice job, do you think you can get the background to track a little closer to their running? There is kind of a floating effect, but that could be a problem on my end.

thanks. and not done yet. got one more character to add yet.

and what kind of floating. i ran back through it frame by frame it looks ok. but i've been staring at it so long i may be overlooking something.

This verson looks much better. I still see a few places where there is a double frame and some places where it cuts frames from you cycle. Barely noticable but you want to keep an eye out for them. Also on the Mummy's cycle, it looks like he's kinda skipping. Like only his right leg comes forward. This happens when you don't vary the extremes for the different legs. Like make the the left leg slightly lower and not as bent as the right leg when they come forward. Same for when they swing back. This is just to break it up visually. Looking good.

Where did you used to hang out?

what kind of floating..

Well, It is the mommy but I think that Animate Ape comments might fix that. To me it looks as tho the mommy is floating in the air when the legs are at full stride.

hehe. ok, i figured out one problem....the whole cycle for the mummy wasnt' playing. i added the up and down motion on another timeline....and copied and pasted the wrong frames, hehe.

I think the double frames are happening at the end of some of the cycles....I try to compensate for it, so my frame rate stays consistent when it loops.

And I used to primarily hang out at comic artisty forum, gingerbox. but only a couple of them do flash, and only about 2 are really cartoonists. so when i finally got that animation fire burning(and out of World of Warcraft) i knew coming here might help a lot. IT IS! =)

haha that's great. i like the pace they are both running at. its funny that the mummy is runing to the beat of the piano. i dont know if that was intentional but it makes it funnier. great character designs as well. the only thing i would suggest is try sepreating the hand holding the hat from the rest of the body, making the bounce of the hand a little delayed. because it kinda looks like his hand is stuck right to his head. but, its just a suggestion. since this is a more stylized animation, it works anyway!

Thanks. I did think of making that hand bounce, and knew i should. i just didn't. hehe. i think it was because I was focusing more on the tassle and forgot to go back.

The mummy, is a total accident. I'm glad you noticed it. I thought maybe it was just me when I was tweaking it the other night, cause I was really tired. hehe.

it always amazes me how much a small touch can make big differences.

the larger steps in the mummy really does make it look a bit more natural....even though it is highly cartoony.

i agree. i might be new to animation and still need to find my groove, but i'm not new to cartoons. hehe. when i first animated the mummy i just wanted to get it moving just to see it. but i do my darnedest to keep every little move that can happen in mind. it's hard to see but i animated the "tuft" on bobo's tassle to flap up and down depending ont he motion of the string...wich i should have inverted on the down swings.

i owe that to Foster's. hehe. one of the first things i noticed about the show is how much little features jossle and move depending on the characters motion. Coco's...um...leaves, edwardo's hair, even the hair that sticks over Frankie's ears. Something so small that most people will never notice it.

i added a couple more steps to the mummy's run cycle. also made him go higher on his stride. and moved his arms down a good deal when he hits the ground to try to show how hard he's hitting.

You keep getting better and better. If the war I am having with my paint program ever ends, I might put something out there too.

oh i hate program issues.
