‘Twilight’ Animated Series in Development at Lionsgate

While the series remake may adapt each of author Stephanie Meyer’s four ‘The Twilight Saga’ novels, it could also take a different approach by adapting the ‘Twilight’ retellings ‘Midnight Sun’ or ‘Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined.’

This is the franchise of a killer, Bella! An animated Twilight series is being shopped by Lionsgate Television, reports Variety.

Vice chairman Michael Burns revealed the news during a Morgan Stanley media conference on Tuesday, stating, “We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”

The original Twilight series of romance fantasy films tells the tale of outsider Bella Swan, who encounters a family of under-cover vampires when she moves to the eternally gloomy small town of Forks, Washington. She soon becomes entangled with Edward Cullen, who can’t decide if he wants to love Bella, or consume her. Their love sparks dangerous rivalries with multiple different vampire factions (and shapeshifters), who do everything in their power to rip the “young” couple apart.

A series adaptation in development last year was previously reported, although it was assumed to be live-action. No word yet on if this is the same project. The series reboot may be similar to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Harry Potter series, with each season representing one of Stephanie Meyer’s four The Twilight Saga novels, including “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn.”

Other potential sources are “Midnight Sun,” which retells the first book from Edward’s perspective, and “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined,” another retelling of the first book with all character genders swapped. This may be a better bet, as the Twilight films have an ardent cult following that would surely bristle at the thought of a reboot.
