‘RAID: Call of the Arbiter’ Animated Series Coming to YouTube

Publisher Pixel United and Plarium have teamed to create the 3DCG video game-to-series adaptation of ‘RAID: Shadow Legends,’ which will air as 10, 5-minute shorts, premiering once a week starting May 18, 2023 on YouTube.

Publisher Pixel United and Plarium have teamed up to create RAID: Call of the Arbiter, a 3DCG animated series adaptation of the video game RAID: Shadow Legends. The game has quickly become one of the fastest growing collection RPGs with over 75 million downloads across all platforms, exceeding $1 billion in lifetime revenues. The turn-based fantasy game immerses players and offers over 700 collectable champions across 15 different factions. With this new series, RAID fans can look forward to learning the origins of some of their most beloved champions, uncovering surprises throughout the series that tie to in-game rewards, and several other collaborations that deliver an immersive experience connecting the game and the series.

RAID: Shadow Legends is a mobile turn-based MMORPG set in the fictional world of Teleria, developed by Israeli game developer Plarium Games. First released as an app in 2018, a port to PC was released in 2020. While the franchise includes hundreds of characters, favorites include Archmage Hellmut, Raglin, Septimus, Sethalia, Ursula the Mourner, and Lady Quilen. The central character for Call of the Arbiter, pulled from the game’s core lore, is an ancient guardian called the Arbiter who is seeking a path to return to the world. She must summon a team of unlikely champions to light the spark that will cast down the darkness.

"We’re thrilled to be working with such a high caliber team on this exciting new series that takes Raid: Shadow Legends to the next level for our fans,” said Plarium vice president creative and executive producer Nicholas Day to IGN. "We want to establish Raid as a bankable evergreen IP, with enough strength to do more, all while appealing to our core fans and capturing interest from a broader audience."

Eric Rollman will produce the series for Rollman Entertainment.  Lex + Otis CEO Jay Oliva will act as showrunner, while Jesper Kyd (Assassin's Creed, Borderlands) will compose the score. Kyd’s symphonic and choral fantasy score was recorded with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and Choir.

"It has been so inspiring to work with producer Eric Rollman, showrunner Jay Oliva and executive producer Nicholas Day, who is also Vice President of Creative at Plarium," said Kyd in a statement. "They facilitated a really creative environment where original music ideas were embraced and encouraged. RAID is a rich and colorful universe, so it was great fun to score these beloved characters from the game, bringing them additional depth and helping to bring them alive through thematic music for the animated series. For the recording, it was also an honor to work with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and Choir who brought a really passionate performance to this music which features the choir predominantly throughout the score."

RAID: Call of the Arbiter will be comprised of 10, 5-minute shorts that will premiere once a week starting May 18, 2023 on YouTube.
