Mortal Media Leads Investment Round for Swaybox Studios

Led by Mortal Media execs Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil, with participation from Joel Whitley and IAG Capital Partners, the new funding will allow for an expansion and streamlining of animation studio’s production pipeline.

Film and TV production company Mortal Media, run by Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil, has led an investment round, with participation from Joel Whitley and IAG Capital Partners, for animation studio Swaybox Studios. The new funding will allow for an expansion and streamlining of its production pipeline.

As part of the investment, Mortal Media will join Swaybox’s advisory board; an untitled live-action/animation hybrid collaboration project between the two parties is now in development.

Swaybox is known for its proprietary animation technology called ‘Momo Animation,’ which combines CGI animation, stop motion, and live action real-time performance for a unique viewing experience.

“Whenever we get to catch a glimpse of Swaybox’s latest animation tests, we can’t stop smiling,” Griffin added. “This investment signifies our commitment to helping the talented artists at Swaybox push boundaries and innovate these new tools for storytelling.”

“We are incredibly excited to have Ryan and Blake as strategic partners,” said Swaybox co-founders Theresa Andersson-Mintz and Arthur Mintz. “Their creative approach and genuine passion for animation align perfectly with ours, and their commitment to Swaybox will help us continue to explore new possibilities in the medium as we strive to build a first-class animation studio.”

“We’ve been so impressed with Arthur and Theresa’s vision and long-term aspirations for the company,”  said Kalil in a statement. “Swaybox’s technology is really remarkable, but it’s the artistry of their animators, puppeteers, and craftspeople that makes Swaybox animation feel like magic.”

Mortal Media is behind the recent Apple TV+ sci-fi dramedy series Hello Tomorrow!, starring Emmy-winner Billy Crudup, this year’s reboot of White Men Can’t Jump starring Jack Harlow for Disney/20th Century Studios, and is currently in development on both scripted and unscripted film and series projects across Netflix, Paramount, FX, and Disney.
