Iridas Unleashes FrameCycler DI

Iridas has launched FrameCycler DI. The new application, which provides review of frame-based file formats, EDL conform, and remote collaboration capabilities, will be presented next week at NAB.

Unlike other playback systems, FrameCycler DI reads and writes virtually every format used in the industry, including Cineon, OpenEXR and more than 100 varieties of DPX. Conform capabilities allow the application to build playlists from Edit Decision Lists. Basic editing functions allow the user to make changes during review avoiding extra trips to the editing suite. FrameCycler DI offers primary color grading capabilities compatible with Iridas' SpeedGrade applications, including SpeedGrade OnSet. 3D LUTsupport for all standard display calibration systems ensures accurate color representation.

FrameCycler DI includes ReviewLink, a new technology from Iridas allowing for interactive review sessions from multiple locations over a standard network connection. Users can view original frames, lower resolution proxies, or offline QuickTimes with frame-by-frame precision and full playback control from each location. Notes and drawing tools allow for on-screen communications during a session. Any editing or color grading changes are automatically reflected on all connected clients.

"We see FrameCycler DI as the next level in review systems," said Dave Morley, visual effects supervisor at Fuel in Sydney, which is currently completing work on CHARLOTTE'S WEB for Paramount Pictures. "We can review our work in real-time directly off disk at film res without the need for conversions to a specific file format. Even with effects sequences with large amounts of shots, and with EDL conforming, we can quickly update the timeline with changes from editorial to reassess our work in the context of the latest edit."

"Having the realtime grading functionality is a fantastic bonus," according to Morley. "It allows us to balance the look of shots across sequences in an easy and efficient way, also allowing the director to develop a look as you go."

"As production pipelines become more and more international, it is essential to have a way to review work interactively with facilities that may be half way around the world," added Iridas ceo Lin Sebastian Kayser. "FrameCycler DI with ReviewLink provides the solution."

During NAB, Iridas will be located at the Ciprico booth (SL4987) at the Las Vegas Convention Center April 24-27.

Iridas (www.iridas.com) pioneered desktop film-resolution playback in 2001. Its FrameCycler products are now the industry standard for frame-based image review. In 2003, Iridas introduced the first non-destructive color correction application. Today, SpeedGrade and FrameCycler provide a complete, end-to-end pipeline for uncompressed content and color data. Iridas' applications are used by many major animation and post-production houses, including Warner Bros. Feature Animation, Industrial Light & Magic, The Moving Picture Co., ReelFX, Lowry Digital (DTS) and many others. Iridas is an independent, privately held company headquartered in Munich, Germany.
