Voltron Assembles for the Big Screen

Veteran producer Mark Gordon, music producer Pharrell Williams, World Events Prods. and producers Mark Costa and Ford Oelman will team to bring VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE to the big screen, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The film will be produced by Gordon (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, SPEED). Williams, Costa and Oelman will exec produce.

The story will be based on the animated TV series, which debuted in 1984 and was produced by World Events Prods. The show followed five rebel adventurous pilots who journey to the planet Arus to discover how to operate Voltron, a giant mechanical warrior formed by five smaller robots.

Costa and Oelman are an assistant and director of production at New Line, respectively. They obtained the rights from World Events and then were introduced to Mark Gordon Co.'s Jordan Wynn by Pam Silverstein at Key Creatives. Wynn then brought it to Gordon, who moved forward with the project.

Wynn will shepherd the film for the Mark Gordon Co. Williams, one-half of the producing duo the Neptunes, will score the film and produce the soundtrack.
