The Berlin International Film Festival wrapped up its festivities on Feb.18, 2006, with its awards ceremony, bestowing the animated Taiwanese short, WEI XIAO DER YU (A FISH WITH A SMILE), with the Special Prize of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk.
The 10-minute film was directed by C. Jay Shih, Alan Tuan and Poliang Lin. The winners will receive 2,500 euros.
The jury commented, "An apparently simple but beautifully made film reminds us to open our hearts to the truth that if you set someone free, you also shall be free. This is a film with something for people of all ages.
The story follows an old man who must deal with the happiness his devoted pet fish feels when he sets it free.
