In only 15 short years, Cinequest has risen to be one of the top 10 film festivals in the world. Cinequest is Northern California's premier motion picture institute that produces: Cinequest Film Festival, a soul-stirring and personable discovery festival of international films and digital forums for movie lovers, Maverick film artists and students; Cinequest Online, a premier Maverick film discovery and delivery site; Cinequest Digital Studio; Youthquest; and Cinequest Screenwriting Competition. Additionally, Cinequest recently launched its own DVD label as yet another way to put independent product into the hands of film lovers.

Cinequest 16 will be a spectacular break-out festival of special events, VIP guests, seminars, technical presentations, and catered celebrations. The Maverick Spirit Award events and entertainment add to the fun of this warm and extraordinary discovery festival. Winners from the Cinequest 16 Screenwriting Competition will also be announced during the festival.

Film submissions and attendance for Cinequest 15 broke all records for previous Cinequest festivals. Cinequest represented 40 countries as it debuted 80 World and U.S. premieres out of a program of 207 short and feature-length films. 61,200 people were in attendance - a substantial increase from the 2004 figure of 54,100.

Sections of the festival include: Maverick Competition of international features, documentaries and shorts; Cinequest DXD (Digital by Digital) showcase of features, shorts, seminars, distribution and projection; Global Landscapes highlighting films from around the world; and our Emerging Mavericks / New Visions program focusing on the top up-and-coming talent. All styles, genres and lengths of films are accepted.

Cinequest is honored that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected to recognize the Cinequest Film Festival as a qualifying festival for the Short Films category for the 79th Annual Academy Awards. Recipients of the Best Short Narrative and Best Short Animation prizes will qualify for consideration for an Academy Award without the standard theatrical run, provided the film complies with the Academy's rules. The submission deadline for shorts and features is October 31, 2005. Early submissions are highly encouraged. There is a late deadline of November 11, 2005 for an additional fee. Works in progress are accepted as long as the films / videos are complete by the festival screening. Filmmakers may submit online directly to Cinequest at www.cinequest.org. The entry fee is $40 U.S. before postmarked deadline and $45 U.S. for late submissions.. Filmmakers can download a printable entry form (Adobe® Acrobat® PDF: 867k) as well.
