Disney Breaks Ground with VOD Deal

Disney has struck its first ever subscription video-on-demand deal with Singapore's Singtel, reports C21 Media. Also, in a separate move, the company has signed its first Russian digital media agreement with Sistema VOD.

In the Singtel agreement, Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific) will launch SVOD movie service "The Film Factory" this month on Singtel's digital pay-TV service Mio TV. Film Factory subscribers will get on-demand access to over 100 library films from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films. The service costs $8.72 (U.S.) per month. Disney hits such as RATATOUILLE are already available for individual VOD rental on mio TV.

In the Russian deal with Sistema, Disney-ABC International Television EMEA will offer Russian subscribers access to a wide selection of current and library features from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone and Miramax. The agreement also includes forthcoming features from Walt Disney Studios. Subscribers will be able to view the films for 24 hours from purchase.
