Bidding To Begin on Star Wars Films TV Rights

Lucasfilm has sent out a letter to potential network buyers inviting bids for the TV broadcast rights to the STAR WARS film franchise, reports VARIETY. The price tag for the six-film series could go as high as $50 million.

Insiders say the most valuable title in the series for them would be REVENGE OF THE SITH, which would be available in the summer of 2008, following its exclusive pay TV run on HBO. In addition, the two other prequel are also valuable, because outside of HBO, the films only aired on FOX as part of the deal struck by 20th Century Fox for the theatrical release. The original films are likely to bring in less because they have aired extensively on broadcast and cable channels over the years.
