Lionsgate is in talks with MGM to distribute the horror flick, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, reports Deadline.com. Director Drew Goddard, screenwriter of CLOVERFIELD, penned the film with Joss Whedon. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, who is now received great buzz from his starring role in THOR. The cast also includes Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

The film has been on the shelf for years. MGM originally planned to put it in theaters on Oct. 23, 2009, but pulled it in order to covert it to 3-D. Due to its debt problems, MGM soon after stopped operations completely. CABIN simply had to wait.

MGM is still looking for a home for its remake of RED DAWN, which stars Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson (upcoming HUNGER GAMES) and Adrianne Palicki (WONDER WOMAN TV pilot).
