SMPTE and VES to Explore Imminent AR Evolution

VES of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Section of SMPTE emphasize the importance of augmented reality technologies with special joint June meeting.

LOS ANGELES -- The Hollywood Section of SMPTE, the organization whose standards work has supported a century of technological advances in entertainment technology, and the Visual Effects Society Los Angeles Section will conduct a joint meeting on Thursday, June 22 to examine the rapidly evolving field of augmented reality (AR).

Drawing on leading-edge technologies from cloud-based supercomputing to next-generation mobile devices, AR is creating new ways for people to experience the world. At this joint meeting of the SMPTE Hollywood Section and VES Los Angeles, a panel of experts will provide an overview of the AR landscape and the technologies driving it. They will also share insights into emerging business opportunities and offer advice on what it takes to get involved in this exciting new field.

“Possibilities abound for the application of augmented reality, from augmented commerce to new forms of augmented entertainment,” said Marty Meyer, chair of the SMPTE Hollywood Section. “We are excited to co-host a panel of leaders from companies that are among those at the forefront of our industry’s evolution. It promises to be a very timely and thought-provoking evening.”
