Sonic the Hedgehog, which starred Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, and James Marsden, debuted last year, setting a record for the biggest video game film opening weekend in the United States and Canada. It went on to gross $319.7 million worldwide, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of 2020 and highest-grossing video game movie adaptation of all time in North America.
Netflix just announced that a brand-new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Prime, is in development, set to premiere worldwide in 2022. The 24-episode animated adventure features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame, who has the fate of a strange new multiverse resting in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe; it is a journey of self-discovery and redemption. The announcement was made by Netflix, SEGA of America, Inc., and WildBrain.
The Blue Blur returns to theaters in 2022.
