the best in terms of what???
it seems to be a pretty wide meaningful word..no??
i mean..
is it in creativity, production ?, fun?
seriousness? innovations, american wise, european wise, asianwise...

i'm not sure how to answer that because each era has a very distinct flavor , and brings me something i like and dislike about it..

for me the era that has the most "emotional" value is the one with which i grew up... the eighties...
but that's just the emotional value of it.

i think some of the seventies cartoon were awesome in their creativity..

thne you have the upa era that was such a big big evolution and touched everybody, wether as a reactive force or as an inspiring one..
etc etc...

:D Apply everthing. whether its style, concept, originality, inovations. Whatever u feel that gives a certain era that extra umph. Basically what era did u enjoy all around.

My favorite era was the 20s. Yep, nothing quite like the 15020s BC. Just, so...ORIGINAL, ya know?

The best animation seems to have come out of the 1940s, and if it hadn't been for television, I imagine the quality of cinematic animation would have kept improving.

I also enjoy 20s animation, but primarily for its innocence.

And I'm pretty happy with contemporary animation. There's a greater variety and quantity than ever before.

1940s Hands down!

I'll even support that with a quote someone used to describe the Monterey Pop Festival (where Hendrix famously set his guitar on fire):

"Everything before lead up to it and everything afterward came from it" THAT'S what makes the 1940s toon the best.

in terms of possibility, it has to be right now

equipment is so affordable, and there is so much support on the web.

i think it is going to be really healthy for animation as an art

Yeah, unfortunately MANAGEMENT in the industry today is more boneheaded than ever. With overpaid executives telling artists what to do based on "committee research" as well as their need to avoid any lawsuits from parental organizations who demand "wholesome" content in animated shows so that these same shows can do the babysitting for them...........

Animation will have to overcome that and MUCH more if it is to be seen as a viable art form again.

As far as theatrical animation goes the early Disney gets my vote, but overall including television I have to go with the good ol 1980's. Saturday mornings and afternoon cartoons were geared for kids like i have never seen. It has gotten way too washed down these days and I am also biased being a 23 yr old. Rock on Transformers!
