Those Awesome Special effects

Hi Gang

Long time no see!

As I get back into 2D animation, I am stuck on which way to go. I have created some basic silly animations with Flash MX. But now I want to go further and incorporate some of those awesome 2D special effects I see with People who used Mirage, Toon Boom or TV paint.

Has anybody been able to create that type of awesome looking effects? Such as light effects and camera moves and such? I hate to try to learn another software just to get great effects, not to mention shell out the cash. But I am contemplating going further with my work and want to have the best stuff ready to use.

My Flash MX of course is bought and paid for.

So, can anybody point me to some cutting edge Flash MX movies or provide some direction?

I thank you

:D

Kung Fu Jimmy Chow is fully 3D (with the exception of the blood effects, which are done in Flash), rendered to look 2D. We render different elements with Maya and then composite it all in After Effects.

This little number was done with Flash, and the help of a few Photoshop filters.

Hi Pat

Perhaps this effect I'm after is a subprocess done with photo shop? Those links offer some great work!

Spend some time at Bitey Castle, he has a really useful forum and discusses many of his techniques and the extensions he uses.

He has used Swift 3d to do some of the camera angles.

Can you give a link to some of the animation effects that you are talking about so we can see what you mean? You can do camera moves and lighting effects in Flash.

Hi Guys

Laurence, Lets say I am inbetween Wheaton and Schaumburg. I do not want to venture into the 3D world just yet :)

When I think of flash, I think of frog in the blender looking animations. When I saw the examples in the links, I figured I needed to be able to create some of the effects especially the depth perception. I can watch these with out sound. Unless someone can show me something similar in Flash, I may need to try Toon Boom or TV paint. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your info

I have had a feeling that green screen would do well with a project like this.

You're probably looking at a combination of software solutions to accomplish different kinds of results.

I recommend Flash for your basic 2d character animation and coloring, as long as you're fine with drawing in the computer. If you prefer pencil and paper, then I recommend Toon Boom or Digicel.

For camera moves, you're generally talking about multi-plane effects and basic 2.5D kinds of moves. For that, you'll need a compositing program. After Effects is the industry standard. In a pinch (and by pinch I mean thin wallet), Flash will do this type of stuff but it's more limited and a bit more work. But it does work.

For lighting effects like glows and other kinds of visual effects, then Flash just won't cut it. Now you're definitely looking at a compositing program.

And you can do all of this and get some great results without ever cracking open a 3D program.

Beeble,

What did you use to make Kung Fu Jimmy: Episode 9? Thats has some good illusion of depth!

Phacker! The first link is the kind of style I would also like to have. Sorry I have been so late getting back. I have been dabbling in Toon Boom, Tv Paint, Digicel and Anime Pro 5
