job postings from cartoonnetwork

I would like to keep up on new job openings from Cartoon network and/or Nickalodeon, but havent been able to find any website that lists them. I already tried cartoonnetwork.com and couldn't find a "jobs" link or anything of that sort.
Can any one help? :(

Hey Boon, just checked out your site, nice stuff! Your style reminds me of some Oska stuff. Did you ever work with them?

Hey thanks. Your reel is fantastic.
I have never worked with Oska, or ever heard of them for that matter. Want to enlighten me?

You might wanna try www.turnerjobs.com
I am a broadcast designer looking for a job at Cartoon Network and turnerjobs.com has some listings. Their website is kind of hard to navigate though. But try that. Good luck.

Does anyone knows names of overseas studios that animate series for Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon?
I guess most of them are located in India. Correct me if I´m wrong.

cheers

You could give www.answers.com a try. Do a search for animation and they will have a list of companys.

Thanks, Wontobe.
It helps a lot

Cool, I guess they are paying me for nothing :D

True there aren't many positions for actual "Animators" in TV production as most of the actual animation is completed over seas. Most of the positions in the US are for pre-production work such as character designs, BG's and storyboards.

Your best course is to check the AWN job postings, as we posted a job listing a few months back for animator on our show. Also you can call a studio up and ask to speak to the HR department. There you can ask them what positions they are looking for at the moment, how to submit your work, etc. Their job is to hire people so they are more than happy to answer your job related questions if they have the time.

Cartoon Network does in fact produce their own content in house. I have been to their studio in Los Angeles, and met with their VP of production. It seems like a fantastic place to work, as they seem to treat their employees in a laid-back manner, and try to keep them happy. I do not have their exact address on me, but will post it on Monday when I get to work (I left all my business cards there).

Cheers

For the studios who do the work for Cartoon Network, try eitehr Dataquest (DQ animation) or Toonz Animation India. They are your best bets. DQ was pursuing Cartoon Network when I was working for them. Not sure if they got their hook into them or not.

Nobody else there is worthy... I am sure it is one of the two.

Thanks Boon, wish I had time to update my site and reel... hell I never got a chance to finished the site even. Oska does mostly online content. I believe they're over seas but I could be wrong. Pretty talented for Flash work though!

Hey Ape,
I have tried to get ahold of the HR department a few times now, (thanks for the tip btw), and all i get is the machine, do you happen to know where I can find the job hotline number?
Thanks,
-BoonDoggler

The number should be (818) 729-4200.

You can also check out the Animation Guild website at http://www.mpsc839.org/_Home/home_FRM1.html

This is the website for the Los Angeles California Animation Union. There is some useful stuff on there like numbers and adresses of Union studios in the LA area.

Thanks a bunch Ape. That webpage is a great resource. ...but you already knew that.

Turner Studios

The only actual shows that Turner Studios makes currently in house for Cartoon Network is Birdman and a new show that is coming out which the name is currently escaping me....

But anyway, both are made in Turner Studios in Atlanta GA, as well as a lot of the production work for the rest of the Turner stations (TNT, TBS, CNN....). I know for a fact they are actively hiring 2d and 3d animators (as well as other production positions) right now because the department heads were in savannah on Thursday to do just that. The one thing they kept stressing was the people that get hired are the ones that are persistent, and are willing to work in additional areas. They like generalists and are willing to teach people who are driven. They may not even post their jobs, just keep applying.

so you would suggest that I consistently apply at the Atlanta studio, rather than the burbank studio? Or is it all going to get to the same place. btw I like your icon. That movie was neat

Is the burbank one an actual Turner studio? Or is it a another studio doing turner contract work? Either way I just know that Turner Atlanta is hiring at the moment. All depends if you want to live in Atlanta or not :-P

ha ha! I did that test too! The silver lining was I asked them to critique my test and they actually took the time to do it! Word on the street is they were looking for peeps who animated the mouths with motion tweens. Maybe Ape can confirm or deny. I spent a good amount of time on that test... can still hear that damn dialog in my head to this day! It was fun playing with those characters regardless of whether or not I got the gig.

Yes, the studio here in Burbank is the Cartoon Network Studios where most of the Cartoon Network originals are created like Fosters, Power Puff Girls, Juniper Lee and the like. Atlanta is more the Adult Swim team with the Williams Street guys along with the Cartoon Network coorprate head quarters.

Nope, no motion tweens for the mouthes.

Yeah, I still hear voices in my head too. Dialouge! I...I mean I can still hear the dialouge in my head. :P

I have apparently been corrected.

It's somewhat tough to find out about their listings. There is a job hotline, but it rarely lists animation positions. Nearly every time I have called, it says they aren't looking or they are searching for storyboard artists. They do hire animators. The studio is located on Palm and 3rd in Burbank. The best way I have found to get info about their animation positions is to make friends with people in the industry or who have gone to an animation school such as Cal Arts. They generally receive emails listing jobs available throughout the animation industry. Also, Animated Ape in this forum works on Foster's. He may be able to direct you elsewhere. I can give you the email address for Michelle Papandrew. She is the contact I had when I was testing (and apparently failing) for an animation position on Foster's. I don't know if she takes unsolicted emails or not, but you could give her a try. Send me an email or a private message if you want her address (which I hope I still have on my laptop---can't check now b/c I am at work).

They get their product from studios that supply the shows--they do not actually create the cartoons themselves, thus they don't hire animators directly.

i agree.
well that would explain why I didn't get it then! I did a lot of frame by frame. =-/

when I was testing (and apparently failing) for an animation position on Foster's.).

I took that test for fosters as well, and also failed. =-/

well thanks for the advice, both of you, i will give there HR department a call.

If anyone's allowed to explain -- what is this test?

a lil' while ago they cartoon network was taking aplicants for an animation position on Fosters home for Imaginary friends. They allowed about 20 people to take a animation test, and picked a few from that list. We had to take two sceens from the show and animate them.
