The only one I've seen is Shrek 2. It was good, but I really like the look of Polar Express.

Pat Hacker, Visit Scooter's World.

TEACHER'S PET?!?!?!?!?! What the hell???? This is ONLY because it has a Disney name attached to it, as far as I am concerned.

My vote goes to Shrek 2. The least scary, least boring on here, but then again, I have not yet seen the Incredibles... I have a feeling that is going to give Shrek 2 a good run of it...

Cheers

Of course, this is the short list from which the final nominees will be selected. Good news that there are 11 films on it; that means there will be five nominees instead of the three of years past.

So, any speculation on which of these possibilities will make it to the big dance?

If The Incredibles loses, I'm going to be very dissapointed. I really liked Shrek 2, but The Incredibles takes the medium so much further. Great story. Beautiful character animation. Amazing character design. Beautiful layouts. I think this has edged out the Iron Giant as my new favorite animated feature.

These are my guesses (not to be confused with preferences):

The Incredibles
Ghost in the Shell 2
Shrek 2

Though I haven't heard of or seen the Blue Sky or Buddha one. Illumination please =)

agree

I agree with the nominations being Incredibles, Shrek 2, and Ghost in the Shell. I think it's only going to really be between Incredibles and Shrek 2 though. This is just a guess, but I kind of think Shrek 2 might beat out the Incredibles as best animated feature, because of all the Pop culture reference that makes it so much more accessible to the general audience. But then, Spirited Away won last year, so I can stand corrected.

Do you think any animated films are going to be nominated for Best Picture, and actually win? I think The Incredibles has a pretty good chance.

just some thoughts...

Man, I hope you're wrong. While I think some of the voice performances for Shrek 2 were pretty nice (Jennifer Saunders as the Fairy Godmother was spot on) I think Shrek 2 was actually pretty awful. This is my opinion mind you, and I have a definite penchant for disliking pop-culture reference films that take place in fantasy and sci-fi settings. I think The Incredibles has far more of a universal appeal than Shrek 2 and a *waaaay* better soundtrack. I mean, come on, Shrek and Donkey get into a rendition of La Vida Loca at the end of Shrek 2. *shiver*

Ender

At least this time they packed most of their parodies and "hey, look at us making fun of Disney" moments into the opening montage. The first movie drove me crazy; they couldn't go 10 minutes without taking a swipe at Disney or another movie.

I know

Yeah, I hope I'm wrong too. Of course it's just a hunch. I would rather see the Incredibles win (or even Ghost in the Shell) over Shrek 2. I enjoyed Shrek 2 immensely, but I think the other two movies leave you with more meat to chew on when the film is done.

I just watched the trailer again for GITS2. Ugh. Like you're that good. Reminds me of watching the Akira documentary when they showed the roughs and cleanups of the bear's head exploding. It looked like it was done in 3DS Max with a particle system.

This sounds awful, but lots of people have the impression that animation from Japan is just pumped out like a machine. You see things like GITS2 and you know someone has an emotional investment in that work.

TEACHER'S PET?!?!?!?!?! What the hell???? This is ONLY because it has a Disney name attached to it, as far as I am concerned.

Actually, 11 submissions is needed each year for the category to exist at all. Teacher's Pet just pads the list is all. (Some think this is the main reason Looney Tunes: Back in Action was on the list last year.)

Order my book Jesus Needs Help on Amazon or download on Kindle.

I'm pretty sure the category needs eight eligible films, not 11. The higher number allows for more nominees in the category, but it doesn't need 11 to exist.
