My new movie, using Flash this time: "Tequila"

Hi all,

here's my new movie. It's done in portuguese titles, I can translate the joke here if anyone wants, but it's not really worthy. It's just a silly joke. I did this in 3 days just to send to a Flash animation festival.

I'd like to get some critics on the animation, sound and backgrounds. Specially the staging and drawings.

Mind that I had a size limit of 2 megabytes.

I didn't have the time to make a loading screen, so I recommend you download the file and open it straight on your local Flash Player directly from the HD.

Hey Daniel, I can't get your movie to play. :( I've downloaded it to my HD, and have Flashplayer 6. Any suggestions?

That's weird... I posted the same link to a lot of people in my ICQ and everybody managed to see it!

Are you sure you downloaded the whole thing? How big is the file?

AHAHAHA
pretty funny..
I like the music!!
really nice!!
did you draw the backgrounds too??
i've been using flash a lot too...
and I was wondering ..
coming from an illustration background, i like flasha lot , butget very frustrated at times by the "look" of it
Even when i do handdrawn stuff, it always looks computer like...

anybody know of a way to texture the lines so as to make them look like graphite??

and.. this is a VERY stupid question .. but ...
how could i post my stuff for you guys to see???
P.

Squigalicious:)

I wish for the life of me, I understood Spanish. So I guess I'll judge by visual:)

While proportions and size of the squiggle cowboys changes from scene to scene to say nothing about a drunken cowboy walking through the front door of the saloon (and I'm sure that was just an accident):)

I just saw the best Drunken Macho cowboy dizzy spell EVER!
That little scene where right after he drinks all of the purple shots...Totally brilliant!

I gather that the cowboy had to prove himself a man in order to have the special tequila, but I feel wierd because I don't understand the money part.
I don't understand spanish...but still....even if this were in Swahili....I would like to get a general understanding of what I just saw, and I frankly did not get what was happening VISUALLY.

A saloon, a jar of money, a story, a dental operation on a dog, a lot of drinking, a drunken cowboy crawling from chaos and surviving....where others died (I think I understood that part of the spanish).

Could you explain the story?

I really like to sqigglevison and you have really good posing and clear reads on the silohouettes. Keep up the good work:)

It's portuguese, actually... :D

We were in quite a hurry, so I had to draw everything really fast and directly on the tablet. I even came back and redrew the first scenes, because after doing the rest of the movie, my hability with the tablethad improved quite a lot!

Thanks! Since I couldn't afford to have a decent frame rate or detailed drawings, I had to put all my effort on the staging and acting... I'm glad it worked!!

It's really silly, actually... it's a joke my teacher sent on an e-mail...

The man enters in the bar and asks the bartender what is that bowl full of money. He says it's a bet that no one ever won.

To win the money, one should:

1. Drink a whole bottle of the world's spicyest tequila without shedding a single tear
2. Extract the rotten tooth out of a vicious killer dog who lives besides the bar
3. Give an old lady, who lives on the second floor of the bar, the best orgasm she ever had in her sad life

The man thinks it's not worth the effort and starts to drink. After a few shots, he gets all macho and brave and tells the barman: bring the tequila!!

After drinking it, he leaves the bar... and after a hard fight, he comes back and says:

- The dog is taken care of! Now bring the old lady with the rotten tooth!

did you draw the backgrounds too??

Yes! I used textured paper, colored pencils and crayons to make very textured images, so when I compressed them down to 0 quality they wouldn't look too bad! :)

anybody know of a way to texture the lines so as to make them look like graphite??

Flash doesn't make this, but the next version of Lost Marble's MoHo will have this feature! I'm dying to see it!!!!!

When writing your message, down in the page, you'll see a "Manage Attachments" button. Press it, and the upload window will pop up!

Love the style. Loved the dog design. And I plan to learn Portuguese to regain what my ancestors lost.
BTW we have the same joke in Canada but it involves initiation into the lumberjacks, drinking a gallon of Newfoundland screech , wrestling a bear and a woman.

Thanks, Graph!

I think there are only about 100 jokes in the world, and they are all adapted to the local where people tell them. I wonder how that happened. Maybe the jokes were all invented back in the ocean colonization days and travelled around the world in those huge clipper ships.

By the way, what do you mean by regain what your ancestors lost?

Thanks, Graph!

.................

The language, Portuguese. They came to South America as indentured labour when Guyana was a British colony (mid 19th century). Within a couple generations they were speaking English.

Hooray!

I finally got your animation to work! No idea what was going on...but it's working now.

I really liked the squigglevision too. Great work for only 3 days! By the way, I've heard yet another version of the joke with a guy stranded on an island with a cannibal tribe. The animal that requires the dentistry is a lion.

Wow, another version... see, the "global joke theory" only confirms itself over and over again!

Graph, funny you mentioned it, just the other day someone else replied me about the movie saying their parents had come from Brazil to the US long time ago so now he didn't speak portuguese either... maybe I should put up some online lessons! :D

oh great daniel..
i'm goingto post one of my little pieces too..
you stuff is really inspiring!!
P.

I didn't understand the dialogues.. as it was not in english..

in the beginning i was lost but towards the middle it got interesting.. but at the end i got lost again

Heya

Hi, Daniel
I could perfectly talk in português with you, but the other members wouldn´t understand and the forum would not reach its goals.
I enjoyed the style of your animation and decided to meet your website. Pretty cool.
