Warner Bros. Turns To Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are

Warner Bros. has snatched up the rights to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, which was in turnaround at Universal, according to VARIETY. Warner wants to put the Spike Jonze-directed, Dave Eggers-written adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book into production later this year. Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary GGoetzman will produce with Sendak and John Carls.

The project has long been in development at Universal, which didnt allows agree with Sendak on how the project should be filmed. However, the books author was quoted in the NEW YORK TIMES in October as saying, "I am in love with it. If Spike and Dave do not do this movie now, I would just as soon not see any version of it ever get made."

Legendary Pictures will most likely co-finance the project.

Warner exec Lynn Harris is oversee for the studio.
