Writer/exec producer/director Frank Darabont has dropped the writing staff to his hit series THE WALKING DEAD, reports Deadline.com. He plans to use freelance writers in lieu of a staff for the second season. Exiting the series will be the second in command, writer/ exec producer Charles “Chic” Eglee.
For the first season of six episodes, Darabont penned two scripts and co-wrote or re-wrote the other four. Additionally, two of those four scripts were penned by non-staff writers — exec producer Robert Kirkman and Glen Mazzara.
The second season has a 13-episode order and Deadline reports that moving ahead without a writing staff could run afoul of the Writers Guild.
